Laptop computers in Altinkum
Hi
I need to take my laptop with me when I am next out in Altinkum at the end of May. I have never done this before and have a couple of basic questions to ask other members please.
Firstly, do I put the laptop in the hold of the plane or carry it on as hand luggage? Secondly, how do I access the internet? My machine is wireless, so will it work in 'wireless hotspots'? I have heard this term bandied about, but am unsure what exactly this means in practice. Any advice will be greatfully received.
thanks a lot

Re: Laptop computers in Altinkum
Hi
I carry my laptop in my hand Luggage. (Laptop carrycase) But you could put it in the hold. If in hand luggage you will need to take it out and separate through the xray conveyors, dont know why but they seem to request it.
Never had any problems.
Internet Wi-fi is free in many of the cafes and restaurants, just need to sit for a drink or meal and they will give you the WEP code for access.
Hope this helps

Re: Laptop computers in Altinkum
Look for the cafes that advertise 'Free Wi-Fi'
Ask for the waiter for Wi-Fi code which usually consists of a series of numbers/letters. Best get him to write it down as you may need a few attempts.
If you are on Windows Vista or XP there should be an icon bottom right that you can right click and select 'connect to a network' it will then show a window that will search for and then show 'available networks' click on the cafe (named) network, click connect and then it should ask for a network key that is the code provided. Enter carefully and it is case sensitive and hopefully it should show 'connected' then you can surf the net!

Re: Laptop computers in Altinkum
Bev I take mine all the time , definately take as hand luggage
not in the hold, I had a camera and mobile go missing from
my hold luggage and was not covered on my insurance because
they were classified as valuables and should not have been in
the hold luggage

Re: Laptop computers in Altinkum
Word of caution Bev. All the foregoing advice is correct but, when using the network (from a Cafe for instance) make sure that you do require a password from them to connect to their network. Some networks (the Belideye Cafe in Yali, for instance) are 'open' - i.e. don't require a password - this means that your Laptop may be vulnerable to hacking, which would be unfortunate if you were doing on-line banking etc!

Re: Laptop computers in Altinkum
thankyou all for the advice. I've just got in from work and read the responses. I will carry it on the plane with me and try to connect without a password, if needed I'll ask a waiter etc.
thanks again.
