Telekom Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Suddenly the phone line went dead. Why? Bills were all paid so what was the reason?
Visited the Telekom office to report it – OK, back on today!! This went on for over a week and still no phone. Then, at the end of the week the ADSL went off too. Well, I might be able to go without a phone, but not my ADSL, all my friends are in my computer, what will I do without them?
Managed to get the ADSL back on the following Monday, but still no phone – until I discovered that it had actually been reconnected the previous week – to someone else’s house!! It took 7 visits before I could get them to understand what had happened and then I was promised that it would be restored in exactly one hour!! And it was!! That was on Monday.
On Thursday afternoon workmen decided to connect up the new cables. “10 year guarantee”, they said, laughing. OK, so they were rather late in the afternoon so I didn’t really expect it to be done that evening. When we left early the next morning to go to town there was a workman up the pole connecting the cables to the box. Great, I thought, it will all be OK when I get back. Sure enough tried the phone and it was working, so I dashed upstairs to switch the computer back on. When I tried to connect to the internet I was redirected to a Telekom site, where I had to enter my ADSL number and my telephone number. Easy peasy, I had done this before and the information was stored on the computer so I didn’t even have to think for myself.
Bah, it didn’t work. Tried it several times and it still didn’t work. I telephoned to report the problem and got hold of someone who spoke English – he wasn’t impressed with my attempt at reading the Turkish message I was getting. He told me to switch off my modem, leave it off for 5 seconds and then switch it back on again. He didn’t wait to see if it was successful so I had to call him back again. Told him that that hadn’t worked, so he told me that the problem was with my modem and that I would have to recalibrate it! What!!!! I am a computer non-genius and haven’t a clue how to do this, even with the CD Rom!! “Well, you will have to get a computer engineer in”. Oh yes, just like that. However, it must have been my lucky day because my tame geek was awake and promised to come straight away. Well, his idea of straight away, anyway. He did turn up and got to work, with no success. He phoned Telekom who wanted to know: my name, my father’s name, my mother’s name, my ADSL number, my telephone number and my passport number!!!!!!! Gave them all of this, but still no success.
He had the bright idea of calling his mobile from my phone – only to discover that he wasn’t calling from my number at all, but someone else’s!!!!!
As I said, it must have been my lucky day because the workmen were still in the area and we managed to get it all sorted out eventually. They laughed when I told them what I thought of their “10 year guarantee”. I did get a phone call from Telekom this morning asking me what my phone number is and when I repeated it they said, yes, that was right!!
