Ttnet 5*
For once TTNET have come up trumps, since going onto the 48tl unlimited package to stream tv i've been getting a lot of picture freezing when going thro' my VPN to stream live tv,not too many problems with 'filmon hdi' as that runs 4 minutes behind live transmisson time.I've spent many tl to a computor shop to 'clean' my laptop etc,all to no avail, then i checked my download speed & found i was only getting .8 of a mb,this clearly is not enough to stream tv as most sites require a minimum of 1 mb.
So of i go to the Turk Telekom/TTNET shop opposite the oasis shopping centre with a turkish friend(VERY important as no one in this office speaks english),he explained my problem & as i already knew,on a 1 mb package .8 mb was the best to expect, but they then offered me 8 mb for just 1 tl more!!!.The switch over was done there & then & when i got home i checked my download speed & now i'm getting 7.5 mb day & night, busy & quiet times of the day.
Now watching all the english freeview channels via tvcatchup with very little freezing (3 second freeze every 30 mins instead of 12 sec. freeze every 35 secs).Any small problems now seem to be with my paid VPN which seems to only put out 1.6 mb sometimes & 4.5 mb at others !?!. The new speed has also cured freezing on all my vids. thro' youtube etc.
So if anyone else is suffering the dreaded screen freeze on streaming & videos,go into your search engine(google/bing etc) enter internet speed test, pick any site & just see what speed you are getting for your money. It is a well known fact that you NEVER get the full speed you pay for,so you always need a package that offers a speed which is more than you realistically need.
The fact that you can buy 7 mb more for only 1tl per month more doesn't seem to be well advertised,or if it is it's all in turkish, which of course most of us cannot understand.
up to 1mb limited usage 29 tl per month
up to 1mb unlimited usage 48tl ----------
up to 8mb unlimited usage 49tl ----------
Hope this helps some of you , Martin...

Re: Ttnet 5*
Thanks for the info Martin but people should be careful of the *ahem* "fair use" policy! Applicable if youre a big downloader and at 8MB you can hit the "unlimited" cap quickly.

Re: Ttnet 5*
I looked at this but could not understand what this translated into and, as Mack points out, if you go over the limit your speed will drop to (I think) 0.5 mb for the rest of that charging period.
I will be very keen to hear what you can do with 8mb and if you run into this limit: keep us ınformed, please.

Re: Ttnet 5*
Mangrego, yes, it's not perfect, but that's about right; a perfect 1Mbps connection would have; download 1mbs, upload 0.25mps (roughly).
Mack/Immac/Redders, do you know if anyone's had experience of the line speed dropping if you go over the fair use limit?
Dave.

Re: Ttnet 5*
Mangrego, unfortunately this is par for the course. When I had 1mb unlimited I was lucky to get 0.7mb. Now, on 2mb unlimited I am lucky to get 1.7, but normally it is 1.4mb.
The Problem I have is that where the phone line comes into the apartment block it is a real rat`s nest of wires - wires more suited to door bells than ADSL lines. Short of re-wiring the whole block I may just have to live with it. When I complained to TTNet about line speed, their engineer pointed at the external junction box and shrugged - difficult to argue against.

wouldnt worry too much about the rats nest of cables in the block, the distance from the exchange is more important, the type of equipment within the exchange and number of users going through that equipment will contribute to slower speeds.

Re: Ttnet 5*
We're getting lucky in Antalya as Superonline has started to lay Fibre Optic cabling around the more popular areas, hopefully stupidly fast internet and cable TV is on its way soon. (Can break their "fair use" policy in a matter of minutes then ). Id like to see how close to 8MB speed people get on the NET Tariffs from TTNET the whole "up to 8MB" speed claim seems like very vague and excuses them from giving you snails pace connections if the traffic gets high.
Oh and I have noticed that under my friends "up to 8Mb" NET connection his Bit Torrent and streaming video traffic is throttled by TTNET but on my 2MB limitless connection the traffic isnt shaped at all, so that may be another "con" that even though youve got a faster connection if you start watching online video or downloading bit torrents TTNET will slow down that traffic! There are of course techie ways to disguise the traffic but it would be interesting to see, you can do a test to see if your BitTorrent traffic is manipulated here...

Re: Ttnet 5*
i paid 100 Tl for my vodafone dongle and 25 Tl for the card, I get 1 Gb free each month for 3 months then 1 Gb is 33 Tl per month, worked extremely well in yalli, after me spending an hour on the phone to tech service then traveling back to bodrum because they forgot to register the card, then it stopped working as they forgot to activate my package. when I got it sorted it was first class !
as for using 2 pc S i would guess you would just have to set up a network linking your 2 computers.
