Using a UK mobile in Turkey
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I have looked.
We went out to Turkey in Nov and we had to contact a friend in Bodrum (Turkish mobile), we had to dial 0090 (on our UK mobile)to get through. Am i missing something or is that what you have to do?

And it costs a fortune. We had to phone our emlak a few times and they were only 800 metres away but because of the situation at the time it had to be done immediately so walking there was no option. We have now got a Turkish mobile number when we are in the country and my wifes phone has a dual sim card holder we bought on Ebay to switch between the two numbers.

Take an old phone out with you and get a turkish sim card fitted.i did that last year and when i came home i left it with a turkish friend who activates it every two months to keep it valid..

not sure its as easy as that anymore. all phones need to have their IMEI registered if your going to use a turkish sim card.

Re: Using a UK mobile in Turkey
if you read my first post you will see that with Turkcell you can now take your phone back with you along with a few top up cards and do this your self rather than leave it with friends in Turkey. Turkcell now has the "roaming" facility to enable this.
You can still have a uk old phone have it unlocked and registered if needed at Turkcell shops, if you have the original receipt for the phone they will still be able to register.
But you can now take your phones back to the UK.

Turkcell pay as you go mobile phone etc
Thanks for the info so far. I have spent the last couple of hours getting all the details from the Net.
Lorraine, as you say, non Turkish nationals need a pasport and the receipt of purchase for your mobile to register the phone. Can be then topped up in many ways, both in and out of Turkey - Top-up cards, SMS, Internet etc.
All is explained at the Hazir Kart web pages (Turkcell's Pay As You Go arm) at:
http://www.turkcell.com.tr/index/0,1028,300066,00.html
ALL the info one needs IS there if you keep looking.

May I ask if phones are so expensive in Turkey that it is not worth just buying one out there? I am not talking super phone just a normal every day type.
