Re: Cheap Calls to and From Turkey
Anybody living in Turkey that calls an International no. Just put 1045 in before dialing your normal number. You will get a separate bill from Turk Telecom at the end of the month and be pleasantly surprised.

1099 Cheap Calls to and From Turkey - no special gear or upfront payment needed
Yay! Here's one that's good for lazy people like me, who don't have internet at home, or a credit card, or lots of money to spend buying special equipment or paying upfront for my phone calls...
1099 Superonline is providing discounted phone calls from Turk Telecom land lines - which I think at the moment is all fixed lines in Turkey! All you need to do is dial the number 1099 in front of the number you want to be connected to, and you will be billed for that call at a discounted rate.
The discounts start from 16% off the cost of calling another land line in Turkey; 20% for calling a Turkish mobile phone number; and 36% to call a landline number overseas. It actually makes the cost of calling overseas cheaper than the cost of calling a Turkish national number on Turk Telecom, even after you add Tax!
My favourite thing about this is that it doesn't require any initial outlay and you don't even pay a subscription fee as far as I can see - so no special equipment, no credit card, and no need to order in advance. You are billed for your Superonline calls on your normal Turk Telecom phone bill. It might not have as good savings as other services that are available but it's perfect for lazy people like me!
More information is available on the website - the pricing list is under "tarifeler" and is pretty easy to understand even if you don't speak Turkish! http://1099.superonline.com/

Re: 1099 Cheap Calls to and From Turkey - no special gear or upfront payment needed
Just got my Nokia N800 configured to use Skype, so this summer I'll be looking for free wireless internet in the Bodrum, Gumbet or Bitez area, texting folks at home, from my Turkish mobile to load Skype, and calling them for free using Skype. (I hope)

Re: Cheap Calls to and From Turkey
Anyone use www.18185.co.uk for calls. I signed up with them a few weeks ago and their call charges are pretty reasonable from the Uk to Turkey - 6p per min to call a Turkish Mobile and 1p per message to text a Turkish Mobile. On each call there is a 4p connection charge so 16 mins works out at £1.
Good contingency for those days when there's no hotspots for skype in Turkey!

Re: Cheap Calls to and From Turkey
Yes, I have been using 18185 for several years now and find it great for phoning Turkey. All my calls go through this number as it is cheaper (0p + connection charge any time of day or length of call [UK]) much to BT's annoyance. They won't give me broadband so why should I put my calls through them?

Hi Laura,Regarding that 1099 calls if you pay your Phone bill by direct debit , is it just the same or do you get billed seperately Cheers Jeff

Re: Cheap Calls to and From Turkey
ok, here's one for all you clever cloggs! all of the numbers/call cards for ringing UK/int'l FROM Turkey, all require a touch tone dial. We have a digital phone, but we are in an older apartment block. Our home phone does not have touch tone dialling. I think most probably that what has happened is we do not have a 'full' line to our apartment, but one to the building, which is then has been split off by the phone company, so in effect its like each apartment has an extension, rather than their own line - if you know what I mean?
when we ring, you hear little clicks instead of a tone, so for eg when you dial 8 you hear 8 quick little clicks. it reminds me of years ago at home when my dad installed an extension in the bedroom himself - it would dial like that and the main phone would give little blips as you dialled!
so basically, we cannot use the call cards, call divert numbers etc. I have explained this to my Turkish partner, and he has asked phone co, but they insist that it is our phone, not the line, which is rubbish, because we have a DECT phone.
Anyone any suggestions on how to go about getting 'tone' dialling on our line? has anyone else had this pro?
its a right pain cos it means if I want to make a cheap call hom, i have to do it from the office, and inevitably whenever I do someone will pop in, or my mobile goes! would love to be able to have a relaxed natter with my sisters without having to rush off cos I'm using the work line!
any help out there???????
