Facebook banned in Turkey?

I have just been trying to access Facebook from my Tirkish IP, and I failed. No problem with other IPs however (USA, Germany).
Is it a local trouble or you have problems too?

OK, this might be a local problem here in Mugla.

No problem here in Akbuk (at the moment).
The situation you describe though is what I have been experiencing a lot lately. Even just an hour ago I could not access some sites which I know are not banned. Click on the VPN and no problem.

Most annoying is it is happening with one of my email servers, sometimes can't send email from that account unless I use VPN.

Something very "not normal" has been happening with Turkish network lately.

Re: Facebook banned in Turkey?

Yes Mollag, for Twitter it's all locked down now, no change of DNS settings whether it be Open, Google or whatever will get Twitter now. It has be VPN or proxy.

Skype, Facebook & Youtube, anybody's guess how long till they are blocked.

Re: Facebook banned in Turkey?

I suspect the Twitter ban will be short lived and the facebook ban is unlikely to happen and if it does it will be short lived too. Why, economics. Tourists expect to have access to the web these days, people will stop going to Turkey and the economy is very dependent on tourism. Also lessons learnt from Egypt when they shut off the net for a few days showed it crippled government as much as the so called dissidents, so it was turned back on.
Time will tell and I could be wrong, but the elections are a week away, once they are passed I suspect the twitter ban will be conveniently forgotten about by the Prime Minister and talk of blocking Facebook will be absent till the next elections get close. So the tourist trade won't be affected.
Also I am seeing activity on FB from Turkish friends as I type this, so I don't believe there is block, more likely a ISP failure. They must have Virgin running the Turkish internet!!!
