Global for International calls
I have been offered a deal to sign up to a Turkish firm called "Global" who provide cheap phone calls. It looks attractive but I would like to hear from anyone who uses them for calls from Turkey to UK (the main cost on my phone bills).
I am interested in reliability and quality of connection.

I am curious, do they offer a box that connects to your telephone? Or do you dial a special number first?

Re: Global for International calls
Well becareful. I had one of these boxes too. It was through Worldline International. I had to pay a $50 YTL deposit on the box. While most times the reception was good (calling Canada) sometimes it would take almost an hour to get through. Then one day I could not get through at all and I tried for several days to get through to customer service will no luck. I headed downtown to their office and low and behold they had gone out of bussiness and I was stuck will a call box of no use.

Sounds like a least cost routing box. If it is then basicly like the UK a company will buy a huge chunk of minutes at a discounted rate, and pass the call savings. Also call clarity depends on who the service provider is using for the actual calls. You could always ask them who is providing them with their service.

Re: Global for International calls
I use skype and it works really well, as long as you have a good broadband connection. It also means the I am free to use it where ever there is a broadband connection.

Re: Global for International calls
I have just signed up to Skype - still getting the family to sign up at UK end. It looks good and the sound quality on the tests seems exceptional. We have been trying to work out a way of making sure that people are sitting at their computer at the right time (the talk is free if you talk to someone sitting at the other end who is at a computer).
I don't intend using their pay service.
Up to now, we have used MSN Messenger, but the reliability and quality is poor - I hope Skype is better.
I suppose one option is to text someone to tell them you want to talk to them on Skype.
