Skype Translator

This could be useful to some but it is still in beta at the moment. If anyone has experience or downloads it then it would be interesting having an unbiased view. Shame no Turkish and I am not sure how accurate/successful that would end up being if they do release Turkish.
---------------------------------------------------------
Skype Translator gives you the ability to speak another language without learning one. Simply set up a Skype video or voice call with someone who speaks another language and start talking. Translator is currently available in English and Spanish. More languages are coming soon.

When you use Translator:

✔ Your conversation is translated into another language in near real-time.

✔ What someone else says is translated back in your language.

✔ An on-screen transcript of your call is displayed.

✔ And you can send instant messages across 40+ languages.

Skype Translator

Addendum: Just noticed you need a Windows 8.1 device to use it, I have so no problems but I imagine a great many don't.

Re: Skype Translator

It certainly sounds a good idea, but people are going to have to remember that some/a lot of words have different meanings in different languages.

Re: Skype Translator

I read this article a couple of months ago, there is also a short video. They do say in the article that they can't guarantee the translation will be perfect.

Microsoft demos 'universal translator' - CNN.com

Re: Skype Translator

Why no spell check? Skype a waste of space & money since Microsoft got its inept, incompetent hands on it, they muck up everything they touch!

Star Trek comes true .

The early versions will be replaced by better and better .
my turkish gardener had one on his smart phone .

I spoke into the phone what I wanted doing .
It then played back in Turkish.
Job done .
