Mobile Internet?

Hi, can anyone help? We are going out to our house in Turkey in March and looking to get internet for the children to use, up until last year we lived there and had full internet, but obviously had this cut off when leaving. I have read on here there is such a thing as a vinn(?) how does this work and would I have to get one for each of their tablets? They both have Samsung Note tablets, if this makes a difference? Also, how much do they cost and where is the best place to get them from?

Thanks
Sara

Re: Mobile Internet?

I use the turkcell vınn and you can buy one from the turkcell shop ın your area. You need to take your passport wıth you.I dont know current purchase prıce of the actual dongle as ıve had mıne for 6 years now.You can eıther go ınto the turkcell shop to top your dongle up and ıt costs 39tl for 4gıgs for 30 days use ıt or lose ıt.Then there ıs 79tl for 10gıgs whıch ıs for 3 months use ıt or lose ıt.You can top up onlıne but ı have allways called ınto the turkcell shop as ı lıve quıte close to ıt.The turkcell vınn dongle ıs about as bıg as my thumb and plugs ınto the usb port at the sıde of my laptop. There ıs no contract and ıve been pleased wıth ıt obvıously ıf you download much or stream anythıng such as tv then you wıll run through your gıgs pretty quıckly but for general surfıng ıts fıne.

Re: Mobile Internet?

We have a Turkcell MultiVinn - operates at excellent speed, very reliable and supports a small number of users (max 6, I think).

Same price for data as in post above, but allows multi users. Cost of device might be 200TL. You'd need to confirm the price.

Re: Mobile Internet?

Two Turkcell choices here, both the same price but looking at the specs I would suggest e5221 would be the more appropriate for your needs.
Hi Sara,

Check out the Turkcell website, I think you will find what you are after here.

VINN WiFi MF65M - TURKCELL

VINN WiFi E5221 - TURKCELL

?nterneti Bol 1000dk 4GB 1000SMS Konu?ma Paketi | Turkcell

there is also a similar service offered by the other two service providers Avea and Vodafone but in my opinion Turkcell provide the best coverage and are marginally cheaper.

One other point, if you are visiting your house in Ortakent, avoid making anything other than enquiries at the Turkcell site in Midtown. You would be better going to the Turkcell site in Bodrum next to HSBC when you are ready to part with your money.

Re: Mobile Internet?

Thank you all, so it looks like around 300tl can get me a vinn and 10gb of data to use which should keep the kiddiwinks happy for 10 days while we are painting etc!

Pete, we sold our house in Ortakent Seemed pointless keeping both as we were moving back to the UK for schooling, shame though as I loved the area.

Sorry, couple more questions. The tablets have no usb port so would i be better off with the equivalent of a mifi? Is that the Multivinn? Also I take it I don't need a landline for any of these as this was disconnected too?

Thank you so much for your help

Sara

Re: Mobile Internet?

Yep Sara, multivinn (unless someone knows better) is the one for you, as the devices have no usb ports. Speed out in Tuzla is usually 9-10mb. Also great when stuck in an airport waiting around once you get it up and running.

Re: Mobile Internet?

WARNING: Make sure your house gets good enough Turkcell coverage. We are on the edge of a signal, we borrowed the VINN of a neighbour and we only get about 0.02 Mbps of download speed whereas another neighbour less than 500 meters down the road from us gets 9-10 Mbps download speed. Try to borrow a VINN from someone and check it out before you buy. If you have a "smart" mobile phone with Internet capability, you can also test download speed with a "speedometer."

Try one of these:
http://www.speedtest.net/
http://testmy.net/download
http://speedof.me/
and TTNET has their own:

Re: Mobile Internet?

Thanks, that sounds like our plan then, we will be there in March/April then again in July/August so the same sim should be ok for both, will just need to top up the gb's(?). May just get back again next year before it runs out if you get 270 days

Thank you all very much for the help, what is it with children these days, they cant seem too live without internet!!!
