Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

Any suggestions as to make and model would be useful. Moving up to a more modern phone, and 4.5G seems to be the standard to aim for. Anyone have any experience of this and any tips - good & bad?

Not too fussed about the camera side of it, to be honest, and that seems to dominate the adverts. Ease of use, robustness and battery life is more important.

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

Ok so your not in thr mood for humour.
Look on your ISPs web site and you will see all the phones they offer, that is if you're a contract customer. If not it will still give you a guide to what's hot and what's not.
Good hunting.

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

Hi Ian
The obvious first question is what is your present phone, and do you have access to a good 4G signal, they just about all do exactly the same thing, and most of which you wont use, having had half dozen latest models immediately after they are released I have now come to my senses and realized, that the best phone 12 months ago is probably the best purchase now, you wont use half of what it can do, and you wont be paying the premium price for it, the 4G is a issue because the 4G ready phone will be more expensive than a 3G, but if you cannot get 4G whats the point.
You will get a dozen different answers from a dozen different replies as to whats the best phone, I would suggest with you been in Turkey something like the HTC one M8, its about 18 months old in the UK, but it was an award winning phone, if that's not suitable maybe the Samsung galaxy s6,this one will be expensive, both good reliable and not top of range phones. regards martin

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

I thank you both for your answers. I am very much used the idea of taking something that is a few months old to get the price drop. The HTC one M8 is now "reduced" to 1600TL, and, as you say, it will do far more than I want to do. There are Samsung galaxy J2 4.5G at around 650TL - that seems to be the bottom of the price range for 4.5G.

I keep my phones a long time, which is why I thought it best to go for whatever is trending, and 4.5G seems to be it at the moment. How can I find out what signal is available locally? Turk Telecom are pushing 4.5G (I am not a contract customer) at the moment.

Eventually settled for Samsung Galaxy J7, which was on offer in Kipa for 999TL - 600TL cheaper than the main shops. After the first few days with it I have got the hang of it, but not yet switched to 4.5G, which for Turkcell is being activated on April 1st. Seems to do everything I need of a phone, plus a lot more.

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

I see Turkcell's website now shows that their VINN WiFi MF65M is 4.5g compatible.

Has anyone on the forum upgraded their sim and had a chance to check out 4.5g with the device ?

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

After two weeks trying to get a 4.5G signal, went back to Turkcell shop with interpreter. They checked the phone and told me I have been sold a variant of the Samsung Galaxy J7 that is not compatible with 4.5G.
Back to Kipa, who accepted they had sold it as a 4.5G phone, but had only realised their mistake when it was checked with Samsung. As the time limits on "returns" has passed I have to go through the complaints route.

Ho-Hum.

Re: Mobile Upgrade to 4.5G

Ian may i politely suggest that you complain to Tesco in the UK regarding this matter. I know for certain that Head Office in the past has intervened with complaints about Kipa not honouring Tesco corporate governance regarding their worldwide " fit for purpose " terms of sale.

Good luck

Steve
