My earlier comment was based on my experiences from several years ago when I was a TTNet customer and could not get through to them with a cell phone. I can only assume that they have made some adjustments to their system over the years.

Anyway, you try getting through to their German service or French, Italian and American switchboard.
You may now set your mind at ease and you no longer need to assume.

Unfortunately (or not as your perspective allows) English is the lingua franca of the world these days. I would be greatly surprised if the majority of German, French, and Italian expats do not know more English than they do Turkish.

As for the Americans? Well, we all know they do not speak English. A friend of mine (originally from the UK) said it should not even be called English, it should be called "American."

This is the Turkish Living Forum, very little Turkish is spoken here, yet I believe there are more than one nationality represented amongst the forum members--all speaking English (except for the Americans of course).

How do Chinese, German, and UK business people communicate? English I am told!

English as the modern world’s lingua franca
"English is the modern world’s lingua franca...The prestige and widespread use of English in today’s world is almost certainly a result of economic, cultural, and political trends. It isn’t even necessary to point out the cultural influence of the United States and the English language in general. To understand this, one has merely to make an internet search on nearly any topic, which will reveal that there are more web pages in English than in any other language."

Those damned Yanks and their films, cultural imperialism and all that rot, tut, tut.

For just one very significant example; everyone serious about Information Technology or Computer Science must learn English to learn, to research and to do their work, everyone...

Why Mandarin Won’t Be a Lingua Franca
"the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China this week, and the attending heads of state from those three countries still have to communicate in English...an estimated 2 billion people will speak functional English by 2020"

There are an estimated 300 million English speakers and learners in China. There are probably more in India but then India had the "benefit" of the British Empire and the East India Company to boost their proficiency in that language. The Chinese have had to play catch-up and only since the 1970's.

Yes I actually have and of the Indian people I have met, I understand them far better than some of the UK residents I have met over the last 16 years.

Most of the "Bollywood" films I have seen I could watch without subtitles. Most of those made in the UK I needed them.
