I did one 2 weeks ago. If you do it yourself on the website (after you've paid the tax) its open immediately and you dont need to pay Turkcell or avea anything for registration. Because I use internet banking I was able to log onto the Edevlet website without getting a password from the PTT. I followed the directions on Doc Martins facebook page and it was very straight forward. The only thing that stumped me for a while was trying to put in the date that I arrived in the country. The calendar wont change while the page is in English you need to switch it back into Turkish mode to do that.
Not exactly sure what I paid but 170 sounds about right. Was definitely less that 200tl.

Thanks Alison
Had a look at Doc Martins but it would seem you ideally need a RP. I do internet banking but unfortunately HSBC is not on the list of banks.
You can do it with a visa (in my case this is what I would have) but it looks like the only option is through a network provider ie Turkcell who will charge me 70-120TL on top of the 170TL to register, and I would still have to go to the tax office myself to pay and thePTT for the sifre.
I think that's how it might work if you only have a visa unless someone knows better??

That may be right, I'm unsure but if I was you I'd try doing it online first, I think someone posted on one of the ex pat facebook pages a few weeks ago that they'd done it with a tourist visa. Good luck.

Re: Mobile registering

The info in that link misses out the fact that visa holders can register a foreign phone,[as stated in my files ] but of course you cannot do this online via the e-devlet site as you need ,as a foreigner, to have a 99***** number to register on the e-devlet website.......so payment can be made at the tax office, [showing you passport & phones EMEI] then you go to a service provider to register...Bear in mind that when registering a phone with a visa the IMEI code is locked to the first Turkish sim registered to it, whereas if the phone is registered with an RP,then it's open to any Turkish sim.

Re: Mobile registering

so as redders points out, I as a visa holder would need to apply through Turkcell and can't do it online.

Vodafone let you use your phone tariff in the Europe side of Turkey. So if your on that side you can use the uk phone if you're with Vodafone.

You can use your UK tariff in ALL of Turkey! I have a duel sim phone so I can use a Vodafone sim whilst in Turkey and still receive calls and message on my normal UK number.
