Love Cheese? Cyprus is for you!
Northern Cyprus, like many other resorts, had a difficult time last season with tourist numbers badly affected.
The Minister for Tourism in Northern Cyprus, Mr Enver Ozturk, has devised a cunning plan to help ailing hoteliers bring back tourists and increase profits-cut price cheese. Not any old cheese, particularly 'Hellim' or 'beyaz peynir'.
Northern Cyprus used to sell itself on it's advertising posters as 'Pure Mediterranean', but presumably now it can sell itself as 'Cheese Lovers Paradise'. Last Year the Minister devised a plan to pay £25 to tour agencies for every Brit they brought over-just like bounty hunters.
One of the whackiest plans however, was to plant enormous date palms, imported from Egypt, collect the dates and sell them to pay for the trees-but no-one had ladders tall enough.
I've just come back from the TRNC-I used to live there, it's as weird as ever but such good fun!!
