Thomas Cook baggage?
Hi all,
I left all my stuff! in our villa but my wife decided not to (long story on a different thread) so we are going out soon and I have not booked any extra luggage (just hand - 5 kg each), I'm going with nothing and my wife is using our hand luggage compliment. I normally see people putting large bags in the lockers on the plane but understand they are tightening up so am just wondering if anyone has had any troubles with hand luggage, I'm going to weigh everything but can they get funny about cameras, bumbags etc on top of the hand luggage or am I going to have to wear a large coat!!!?
Cheers
LM

Re: Thomas Cook baggage?
We flew with the dreaded Saga in May and they were very strict on the weight of the hand luggage. My daughter was on study leave from college and had a 6 inch lever arch file with her with all her revision. We didn't dare trust it to the hold in case it went missing. We ended up having to take everything but one small book out of our cabin bag and carry the rest. What a farce. What difference does it make if you are carrying it or have it all confined in a bag.

I'm not taking any suitcase just my wife's things divided into 2x 5 kg bags to carry on the plane, what I'm thinking is that if they see me with an SLR camera and a strap on bag are they that bad to say that is included in hand luggage?

Re: Thomas Cook baggage?
We flew out to Palma recently with Easyjet and they were being very strict on weight and size of hand luggage, a young girl next to us had one of those very small cases which she said she took on loads of different flights as hand luggage, she couldnt squash it down enough in that contraption they use to size the bags and ended up paying £130 pounds for the bag as excess luggage as she hadnt booked any hold luggage.
The small suitcase cost more than the flight. So if you are not sure it will go on as hand luggage I would rather book and pay the extra for hold luggage.

I think you'll find that they will expect you to amalgamate anything you carry by hand or over your shoulder into a single piece of hand luggage.
Take a look at their T&C on baggage here:

Re: Thomas Cook baggage?
Never used to have any trouble with Thos. Cook, whether travelling from Gatwick or Cardiff.... However, used them to fly from Gatwick just before they brought in the EasyJet/Ryanair scam of separate charging for hold luggage, and they seemed to be scrutinizing everyone's hand luggage a lot more closely at check-in (I just shoved my 3 pieces under one arm and they didn't seem to notice).
On the same journey, a lot of passengers seemed to be carrying 'hand cases' that were precisely the correct dimensions to qualify as hand luggage. I'm sure these must be advertised somewhere on t'net... In fact I think I'll look some out for our next trip. Will let you know how I get on!

Re: Thomas Cook baggage?
Flew with TC Manchester to Bodrum in may, they were very strict with
hand luggage,a couple in front of us had to pay excess as their hand luggage
was over. A young chap who had a backpack as hand luggage had to take
stuff out of it and put in his case,so that the backpack would squash down
and fit into the measuring contraption.

Bum bag should be ok as that could easily be slipped in one of your bags. t.c bag size is 43cm x 28m x 23cm,it really depends on the staff on the desk as far as the camera is concerned, they can be picky and say you are only allowed 1 piece, they will weigh your bags so as long as you dont push it on the size or the weight they would probably let the camera go. but this is the first season with hand luggage only so who can be sure.
Good luck and let us know
Gail
