Thumbs up Pamukkale & Ephesus Tour - Day 1 & Day 2

We went on a two day tour with Oracle Travel £30 per person, here's blurb from their site;

THIS IS THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME A 2 DAY TRIP VISITING EPHESUS AND PAMUKKALE, CUTTING DOWN THE TRAVELING TIME. AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO SPEND A NIGHT AT PAMUKKALE IN A REAL LUXURY OF A 5 STAR HOTEL AND BE ABLE TO HAVE A FULL DAY EXPLORE AT LEISURE.

INCLUDED IN THIS TRIP: GUIDED TOUR OF ANCIENT CITY EPHESUS, VIRGIN MARY'S HOUSE, OPEN BUFFET LUNCH, ALL ENTRANCE FEES, AIR CONDITIONED COACH.

SECOND DAY: OVERNIGHT STAY AT THE 5 STAR HOTEL, FULL OPEN BUFFET DINNER AND BREAKFAST. ALL FACILITIES INCLUDED TURKISH BATHS, JACUZZI, DISCO, NIGHT CLUB, INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOLS

Now the review

We were picked up on Thursday Morning about 8:30 nice big coach which was nearly full (and what a lovely bunch they were too

Here is a sample..

After driving for about an hour and half, we hit the 'Jewellery Factory' ??? we were given a quick intro to Turkish jewellery and given very watered down apple drink, then let lose to browse the shop and be tagged around by the sales people...

Anyway most of the tourists did a runner and waited outside for the few mugs who decided to buy some trinkets.

We finaly started again and headed up towards the house of the Virgin Mary on the bulbul mountain, on route we stopped for a few pictures of The Artemis Temple

(only a column remains with a nest on top), and then continued up the mountain, quite a nice peaceful place, you go into the small house, not allowed to take pictures (I couldn't anything to take pictures off ) spent about half hour resting there (use the toilets here as they are free and clean), then headed down the mountain for lunch.

Lunch was in the barn kinda converted into a restuarant, the place was in the middle of fields way off the main roads, the staff looked and acted pissed off to be serving yet another bus load of tourists. The meal was pretty naff looking but edible as most of us were hungry (price of drinks were not included in our fees) so not a good morning so far [V]

After lunch (about 2pm) we finally headed for Ephesus, which was not far from there, our tour guide 'Metin' told us some more crap jokes and told everyone that should they get seperated from the party to head for the exit gate by 4pm.

We got started with the tour of the place, it was bloody hot!!!! (it was early afternoon, wrong time to be there I think) quite interesting stuff, Metin seemed to have dome his homework at the tourist college.

A sight I wished I didn't see [xx(]

Anyway two hours later we reached the exit gate, all frazzled and dying to run into the airconditioned coach. Metin did a head count and declared that we are one short!!!! everyone looked around to make sure they were there [8D]

We finally figured out that the guy who was wearing just a pair of shorts and shoes, who boarded the coach that morning with a large can of Efes was not there.....

Metin looked pissed, waited a couple of minutes and decided that as he had told everyone to meet at the exit gate, he had done his duty, and as the guy had not turned up there 10 minutes past 4pm, he decided to let the guy make his own way back [:0]

We never found out if that guy is alive or dead, anyway we headed off to our next destination, a Ceremics factory...yippee

This was not as bad as the Jewellery factory, and some people bought some plates etc.

After this we were to split into two parties, one lot of head back to Altinkum (the Ephesus only tour) and us to another coach with Metin onwards to Pamukkle....

As they say, that's another story.....

I wished I had gone with touristguide, I would rather have paid a few pounds more to have had a better time.

I will probably go back to Ephesus, but with touristguide this time.
