Thomas Cook again

Some friends of ours came back through Gatwick airport yesterday with Thomas cook and they acctually weighed her handbag and tagged it. Also another friend came back via Manchester last week and he was asked to take off his overcoat so they could weigh it. They will start weighing the passengers next!

Re: Thomas Cook again

And as people start to NOT have hand luggage etc overweight so the airlines lose that revenue we will be asked to fast (of food) 3 hours before flying, failure to do this will result in a fine.

:-)

Maybe they thought his pockets were too full. Hope they don't weigh my handbag as I always fill it to capacity.

Re: Thomas Cook again

Yes, I was on the Gatwick flight yesterday. They did weigh my hand baggage, which was 1.5kg over, she asked if I would be able to leave anything behind - to which I said yes. (Didn't ask to see me do it!). Then of course I went into departures and after duty free, Next and Boots my allowance must have been sky high. Of course it is all just a huge money spinner. There were also big signs at check-in saying that only ONE piece of hand luggage is allowed (including handbags) - be warned!!!!!

The other thing I hate is these check-ins for multiple flights, yesterday the queue was horrendously long, had to wait 40 mins - it seriously cuts down your shopping time! But as you can see I managed to pack in as much as poss!

Thomas Cook still keep coming up trumps with the fares, my husband has just flown back for £80 rtn incl baggage. So whilst we can still find these sort of prices we will keep using them. Other than that it will be looking out for deals from Izmir with BA - the scheduled experience is certainly a better one!

Re: Thomas Cook again

We had a major delay flying Thomas Cook from Dalaman to Gatwick yesterday.
Our plane although landing early had a major 'technical problem' that consisted of covering the parking place with hydraulic fluid.

Another plane was flown out from the UK with the part and engineers to fit it and we returned on this plane which had a quick turnround.

Throughout Thomas Cook reps kept us well informed and explained the problem and arranged to take us to an hotel for a meal while we waited for the plane to arrive. So I have nothing but praise for Thomas Cook for the way they handled this problem.

Re: Thomas Cook again

Lucky you Ian - I have only once had a serious delay with ThomasCook at Manchester in July 2007 and it was a total disaster about 17 hrs delay, no info for 1st 4 hours and the flight was due to take off at 10:30 evening time. Then they sent (note: sent - they provided 1 small coach for over 200 people) us to a hotel at 5:00am and told us to be sure we were ready for a coach at 9:15am. Got us back to the airport and then informed us the flight wasn't actually going to take off until 3:00pm.

Re: Thomas Cook again

Lucky they didn't weigh hubby's coats that he had on when we came back after Christmas. He had on a shirt, thick fleece, leather jacket and a really thick anorak.

I think though that they got their own back as they charged me £50 for 5 kg excess baggage which I am still arguing with them about!!
