Re: Round trip to Turkey

Did you work out the cost of this (excluding hotels)?

Hi there, we did this last year in our motorhome - I'm not tech savvy enough to provide a link to it - but it was well covered in a thread December 2017 started by gally. Let me know if I can help.

Leo.

Thanks Leo, that's really helpful - my original search didn't pull that thread up! I'm off to check it now!

Re: Round trip to Turkey by Car

Hi All

I'm looking to drive to Turkey next year and leave my UK registered car there for about 1 year to use while I take several long holidays. I will be applying for my first residency permit which I believe, as it's my first, I will only be allowed a 1 year permit.

I've been reading up on the legalities for doing this but I cannot find any specific information about what you have to do when your MOT runs out while in Turkey. I have read the files on Docmartins web site which states "Itís not possible to have the Turkish TUV test [in place of an MOT ] on a foreign registered vehicle"

As I will have legally imported the car does this mean my car will in effect be registered in Turkey therefore allowing me to have an MOT done in a Turkish test centre? If not what is the process.

I know when I return to the UK I will only be legal if I drive directly to a prearranged MOT appointment.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Round trip to Turkey by Car

Am hoping and looking forward to also doing a round trip from Didim to the UK and back, maybe about March 2020 depending on the weather and will be taking my Turkish registered car, so need to know what documents apart from Passport, car log book and m.o.t (TUV) will I need and is it possible to board ferries without pre-booking?

I would suggest you have a new MOT in the UK a day or two before you leave, make sure you and the car are back in the UK just before it expires.

Any documents you have for your car in Turkey along with your insurance upgrade ie green card needs to be with you. Weíve never pre booked ferries or hotels BUT unless you want to spend a day waiting for a ferry, it pays to know the ferry times. If you have a Satnav route/times can be coordinated to ferry times.
Remember this OF, all your documentation is in Turkish, once out of Turkey nobody can understand stand them anyway lol
Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, UK is the way we have always gone.
