Re: Round trip to Turkey by Car

Would anyone get or expect any sympathy if things went wrong for unnecessary journeys across Europe? Surely it must be emergencies only.
The other issue to me would be, medical treatment. Some might knock the NHS but one things for sure, there'll be there for you if needed. I have no idea how individual health care systems operate but its something that travellers must take into account.

There was a short interview the other day from the CEO of Heathrow Airport. He said, social distancing at Heathrow Airport itself would be impossible. Having flown from Heathrow a few times myself, there's no "quiet times", its always packed & the two metre distancing...…..there'd be no room. The suggestion later was, all shops, cafes, bars gutted to make more space, more job loses & a financial hit.

Currently, we cant even travel 40 miles to Derby, never mind two thousand across Europe lol

Bearing in mind routes suggested by others - it really depends whether you want to get from A to B as quickly as possible or whether you want to take interesting routes at your leisure. I drive this route every year. Funnily enough never going via France except for 90 miles or so. Other than sea routes , I now drive from Dunkirk - Luxembourg - Germany - Austria - Hungary- Serbia- Bulgaria - Turkey. If i want to do it in the shortest time then I would use the motorways - toll free until the Austrian border and then tolls/ vignettes thereafter. A few years Serbia was best avoided but since being on the EU accession list it has had to get it's act together and now it is as safe as anywhere else to drive. If you want to use motorway standard roads , then the whole journey from Dunkirk to Turkey can be done this way - other than about 70 miles in Serbia/Bulgaria. Huge improvements over the years. I have done this trip UK-Turkey so many times that now I always take it slower, see the interior of countries and go different routes. So for example, on the way home last year we took the route from Hungary to Slovakia to Poland - to Germany and home . Well worth doing .

Re: Round trip to Turkey by Car

Unfortunately our trip to the UK is a need to do visit, otherwise we would be happily staying in Turkey. So much to bear in mind if the journey is done by car. xx

Great post !

After Brexit, how will we be able to repeat this journey ?

From the visa/passport situation that is.

I would love to know as we intend to have a go next year if the current situation has been resolved.

This article might be relevant to you but how true it all is, I don’t know.
We’ve always gone to & fro via Italy, I think that route will be avoided by many for some time yet.

Just noticed an earlier post from you Sleepy asking about a ferry crossing. The one I was on about was the crossing of the Dardanelle Straits from Canakkale to Gallipoli...…….costs about £7, ferries going across all the time & only on it for 20 mins.

Re: Round trip to Turkey by Car

what will be the position regarding taking our dog back with us and returning after abut 6 months to turkey ?

It seems very confusing if you are driving to the uk as opposed to flying.
