Driving in Turkey?

Unfortunately I don't drive. Have never owned a car even though I did have lessons never took my test here in the UK. Do any of you drive over in Turkey and can you get lessons? What do you do for transport? Has anyone brought their own cars over?

I've heard its pretty dodgy driving in Turkey what are your views?

Driving is easy in Turkey, just remember to stay of the right side of the road...
I have driven there, most of the roads are very good, most drivers tend to hoot a lot, that it just to let the other drivers know that they are there.

Not sure about driving lessons.

And coach drivers - particularly when they go 100 miles and hour eating pistachios and pizza at the wheel!

come to istanbul and you will see some driving that will put hairs on your chest. crazy over taking, triple parking, taxis trying to break the world land speed record and not to mention the dolmus drivers that pull out in front of you.
you get to learn some very colourful words in turkish and you end up driving like them.
I brought my car over from london and does tend to get a lot of stares (right hand drive with a 34 plate) and my wife had a little crash last week as some idiot came out of a back street without looking to see if any traffic coming (happens all the time). I suspect some drivers get their license along with a pint of milk and a loaf of bread from the local bakkal.
but you just learn to get on with it as this is the way most cities on the med drive. what gets me is why trucks seem to have no hurry overtaking each other. one truck doing 15mph the other one over taking at 15.5mph.
I do admire my brother-in-law as he has the ability to drive whilst talking over the phone and eating a kebab at the same time.

TURKISH DRIVERS ARE ALL NUTS!! I TAKE MY LIFE IN MY HANDS EVERYDAY. YOU CAN TAKE LESSONS HERE. ITS A 6 WEEK COURSE AND IT INCLUDES BASIC ENGINE MAINTENANCE ETC. AS WELL AS DRIVING. THERES ALSO A WRITTEN EXAM WHICH I THINK THEY DO IN ENGLISH NOW TOO. HOWEVER, IF YOU CANT BE BOTHERED WITH ALL THE HASSLE, JUST BRIBE THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES, THE SAME AS THE TURKS DO!! LOL

its great when there is a crash and they are not allowed to touch the cars till the police come causing some wonderful traffic jams.
I remember when I first came here back in 91 (izmir) and saw this truck that broke down in the middle of the road and the driver just got his stool out and started brewing a pot of tea.

nobody will notice as 70% cant drive here but they get away with it.
you do have to have the basic trafik insurance which costs about 30 million for 3 months and on top of that its optional if you want kasko (fully com).
I pay about 160 million per yr tax but I have a blue plate which makes it much cheaper. my brother-in-law pays 4 milyar for his cherokee jeep.
