Thomas Cook cancellations

We had a phone call this morning from Thomas Cook to say that our flight for March, Manchester to Dalaman, has been cancelled. In fact, she said that ALL Thomas Cook winter flights to Turkey (except for flights to Antalya) have been cancelled due to lack of bookings -scare of bird flu given as reason.

They're giving us a full refund and we have just rebooked with A1 travel on the Onur Air flight same day, only cost £13 pp more. So we're sorted, but I wonder how many other people are affected by this.

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

I have booked with them to go in April from Gatwick to Bodrum, I haven't heard anything today, maybe they contact me tomorrow, what a pain.

I have just phoned them and they have told me that the flight is cancelled for the same reason. I'm off to try and book something else.

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

Aye, the bird flu issue has been a bit convenient for some of the carriers who have been cancelling winter flights to Dalaman.

Lack of interest I suspect is closer to the truth.

Disinterest is probably, in the long run, a bigger problem to service providers than Flu. They will only put on a schedule if they believe there is a market.

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

I had a phone call from Cyprus Turkish airlines today asking if I was still intending to fly with them this Sunday from Stansted to Dalaman and also to pick my ticket up at the airport as my sister booked it for me in Turkey.

Hope they don't phone between now and Sunday to say the flight is cancelled.

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

Hi all, just to let you know i had the same problem with Thomas Cook
last year, I had booked a package holiday from Glasgow to Kus with them only to have them cancel 5 weeks down the line...Lack of interest was reason given!!
No bird flu then to "use" as an excuse!!
They shouldn't be able to get away with this
At the very least we should be compensated in some way..
It would be a different story if we were the one's doing the cancelling!!
Good old Goldtrail to the rescue!!! I hope you all manage to
get booked up with someone else..

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

Mark I had this discussion on another site, basically if you add up all the custom for airport travel to Uk through the winters months from marmaris to bodrum you would barely fill 3 aircraft/ there isnt enough population there at the moment to make it economicaly viable. Ten years time maybe.

Re: Thomas Cook cancellations

I have just booked with British Airways so will now fly on the 14th instead of the 17th so get a couple of extra days and they were cheaper, just means we have to travel down to Bodrum from Izmir which is no problem Two other couples we know were going with Thomas Cook but have told them about BA and they are booking the same flights as us

I don't think it is because of the bird flu neither, *&****y Thomas Cook
