Congratulations Phil. Chocolate cakes all round then - mine came through today. Someone is going to get mine on Thursday. I'm going out early april Dalaman via Istanbul, I have also done the Istanbul to Izmir. It's not too much hassle. I'm glad I did that now as some charter flights around that time seem to be cancelled. It also means I can get the 11 days I wanted and travel at the weekend. They go daily.

Sorry, the Izmir trip was with place in the sun and they picked up the bill. The one i'm doing to dalaman I've used airmiles collected from my Tesco shopping and so I just paid £70 in tax. I've done it on other occasions and I didn't think it was much more than a direct charter.
I book these through the airmiles web site and you can use them to book even if you are not an airmiles collector. airmiles.co.uk
I did check their prices at the time with Turkish airlines and prices were the same. Take a look its easy to use and will give you flight times and prices. i've always caught one around 11am from Heathrow, have never had to wait more than about 1.5 hours for the connection.
I'd rather go direct but it gives me more choices of days to travel on. This year school easter hols are awkward. We have to go in for staff training on Monday 3rd april and then back on the day after bank hol monday. That's really awkward for flights. None of the other staff were prepared to give up a Saturday instead of the Monday. No Turkish delight for them now!

Heathrow to Izmir via Istanbul will be around £270. check at www.turkishairlines.com.
However, BA have flights direct from gatwick to Izmir twice a week from 26th march. prices vary,but i've seen from around £130 a few weeks ago

try swiss air lines we paid £17.50 to go out and £34.50 to come back but it stops in zurick for an hour going out then on to istanbull that was from manchester we go 3 april we are staying in zurick for a night on way back the flight to izmir cost£30 pounds so im told hope this helps
