Passport Control SAW

Gary and I have just returned from our first holiday since the change in the visa application. We had to get a connecting flight at SAW to Gazapasia, but as we came up to passport control, we couldn't believe the size of the Que, there were just so many people trying to join it. We only had about an hour and a half between flights and it was a really close thing. To say it was stressful is a huge understatement. I know it's happening because people now already have their visa and so go straight to passport control so there is just a huge log jam. I dread to think how much worse this will be during the summer and how many people will miss their connections.

Re: Passport Control SAW

One still has to go through passport control regardless of how one gets a visa.
You've just got one long queue rather than 2 shorter queues.
Also bear in mind that you still have to wait for your baggage, so it doesn't really matter where the queue is.

I can't imagine Turkey putting more staff on duty 'cos of a long queue.
We're only yabancis after all.

Re: Passport Control SAW

No, I can't imagine any more staff being taken on either. If it wasn't for the fact that a connecting flight had to be met, then it wouldn't be an issue, and as we are flying with the same airline, our luggage goes straight through. I'm just wondering if we will be on the same flight as the bags? And if not, what happens then?

Re: Passport Control SAW

Primarily for security reasons any unattended baggage (that's passengers' luggage with missing passengers) on a flight has to be removed prior to take-off.

Who knows but you maybe a terrorist!

I'm not sure what the overheads are for removing such items but I don't think it's a simple matter. If they do decide to unload and then you turn up then they have to reload the baggage again or put you on another flight.
The airline may decide to wait for you to turn up, as they will know if there are any delays at immigration, or they should know.

Re: Passport Control SAW

I suspect that as elsewhere that if you mentioned that you had a connecting flight with interlined baggage you would have been fast tracked.

Our connecting flight from Stansted -SAW, SAW to Dalaman with Pegasus. Departure from Stansted was delayed. On arrival at SAW Pegasus staff were waiting and we were fast tracked through.

Re: Passport Control SAW

My Mum came to Istanbul with my niece on April 16th. They flew into Ataturk. It took them 2 hrs 45 mins to get through passport control. People with connecting flights were being fast tracked. My mum wouldn't let my niece ask for assistance for her. When she finally reached the desk the officer called my niece forward. Mum was in a panic, wondering what was wrong. The officer pointed to Mums date of birth and asked my niece was it true. He could not believe she was 87! She was exhausted after standing for that length though.
