Airline partners and Frequent Flyer Loyalty Cards

Does anyone else wonder why all major airlines don't group together in one loyalty scheme?

I like flying with Turkish airlines so joined their MilesandSmiles Loyalty scheme, but they don't fly to some destinations I go. I fly Emirates often and collect miles on their Skywards program. But guess what Emirates is not one of the airlines partners in the SmilesandMiles program,

SmilesandMiles airlines partners such as: -
Lufthansa,
Austrian Aiways
Swiss Air
Singapores airlines,
Thai airways,
Air China,
United,
Air Canada etc are partners but not Emirates

Skywards airlines partners:
Emirates
Quantas
Korean Air
Japan airlines
Virgin America
and surprise surprise...EasyJet!

But when will I ever get enough miles for free flight or upgrade with Skywards or SmilesandMiles?? and by the time I do..they'd probably expire!

I guess one would need to be flying at least every month enough miles in one scheme to be able to get a free flight or upgrade.
Its' so hard to remember which loyalty program and group partners airlines, hotels, car hire etc belong to...guess its a bit like any loyalty card they just collect data from your activity.

I think there needs to be one universal register that automatically picks up your membership details from whichever flight, hotel, car hire etc you book and adds the points automatically..but guess that's asking too much..there will come a time folk will have 100's of loyalty cards and not remember a single one!

Re: Airline partners and Frequent Flyer Loyalty Cards

But if you're flying with a competitor where is the loyalty?

If they all joined together it wouldnt be a loyalty scheme, on miles and smiles flying from Manchester - Bodrum we get 1 free flight per 6 paid approximately.
I am also thinking of using them to the far east in the new year which should rack up a few miles
