Question Driving to Bulgaria from Turkey?????

Hi, we are planning to drive from Didim to Bulgaria (Sunny beach) next month.
Has anyone done this and if so which route did you use?, have also been told you can get a ferry from Cannakale to Bulgaraia? any information greatly appreciated

Re: Driving to Bulgaria from Turkey?????

Never heard of a ferry from Canakakale to Bulgaria.
For Sunny beach I would take the Derekoy crossing (the Bulgarian side is called Malko Turnovo) rather than Edirne crossing.
Sunny beach is approx two hours from there , straight run into Burgas then follow the signs.

Re: Driving to Bulgaria from Turkey?????

Sorry for the back to back.
But thinking of the boat thing from Canakakale .... u would have to go up the sea of marmara, through the bosphorous, and up the black sea Coast! Surely walking would be quicker.

In Canakkale you just cross the Dardanelle Straight (about 20 min of ferry, ferries leaving on every hour in winter and MAYBE on every half hour in summer).
After Izmir the traffic is heavy for about 200km, you will have to cross small and big towns, then cross a mountain ridge, and go down to Canakkale. No traffic problems after the ferry crossing. Just follow the Edirne road to Havsa, turn right and go to Babaeski, turn left for Kirklareli there, and then follow "Bulgaristan" signs.
I've done Bodrum-Pomorie (20 km before Sunny Beach) in about 13 hours this May. However, if you feel like driving relaxed, I'd recommend that you book a hotel in Canakkale for an overnight stay. The best one is Truva, but there are also other (and cheaper) options. In this way you can visit Troy, if of any interest to you.
Have a nice trip!

P.S. Please mind speedcams may be active.

When you look for arguments sake at Google Map, Didim to Sunny Beack

It doesn't look as there is much difference in distance, but going via Istanbul can be a bit busy at times.
Whereas taking the Canakkale ferry will if timed right help to break the journey.

Don't forget to buy your Bulgarian toll card either at the border or on-line, or you may find traps down the road.

(Change the language to English or whatever)

Not forgetting the usual:
• Warning triangle – used to indicate that a vehicle has stopped on the road due to a breakdown or accident.
• First aid kit
• Spare light bulb kit – enough to replace half of double light sockets and one for each single light socket. Vehicles which are equipped with non-incandescent light bulbs (e.g. halogen, LED) are not required to have spare light bulbs.
• Tow rope or tow bar
• Reflective vest for each traveller exiting the vehicle on the road during breakdown or an accident. The vest must be kept in the front compartment, not the boot!
• Fire exstinguisher, Breathalyser, GB/TR Stickers

* Dipped headlights must be switched on when driving in the daytime.

Hi. Just to add to another poster's comment re road vignette - ensure that you buy from the larger petrol stations and do NOT buy from the various small outlets at the border post. They will rip you off. I drive the UK - Turkey route 4 times per year and know the toll /vignette prices .Last week one joker tried to charge me 20 euros for the Bulgarian vignette - luckily I knew the price was 6 euros . Bulgaria is a real rip off area - just like Turkey!
