From The Times today.

Seems to be a problem with your link (unless it's just me) so I have shortened it to make it work works, plus another link to a interesting take on the problem.

The url insert is automatically adding a second http: at the start of the link (that was the problem)

Monarch do not appear from these stories to be at imminent risk, but who knows. Maybe I will get to stay in Turkey longer than I expect.

Really do hope they sort it out as IMO they are the best cheap airline, plus the wife is using them in 16 days.

Re: Monarch Airlines in Rescue Package Talks

I know jobs are hard to get, but a 30% drop in wages?

So are they being overpaid to be able to sustain a 30% drop or just desperately wanting to stay in work and hope to claim of the state for being a low paid worker?

**********

When I see things like that it also reminds me of those TV adverts saying 100+ off a vacuum cleaner or 5,6,700 of certain furniture.

The thing is no-one sells these products at a loss, so they are just showing how overpriced they are to begin with.

Article in The Guardian today: Monarch airline: from prince to pauper | Business | The Guardian

Looks like there is still some more talking to be done in the next month with suppliers, creditors and aircraft lessors before it's all settled.

This quote in the article from the chief executive looks rather ominous for future of flights to/from Turkey

Quote:
Charter and long-haul flights will end as the airline tightens its route map to the holiday heartland of the Canaries and southern Mediterranean.
