Re: Greek Islands from Bodrum

So as 2017 races away, we are looking forward to our trip to the Islands again completely bypassing Turkey this time, we are spending a few days on Symi, apart from the Monestrey and good food and good Greek wine, what's to do there ?, also we are 2 nights on Nisyross so same question and whilst I'm at it what about Lipsi ? What happens there, is there a wetherspoons ?

Re: Greek Islands from Bodrum

It's years ago but I remember a little restaurant by the harbour on Symi where the Germans surrendered to the British in that area.
Unfortunately for me, the only thing on the menu was stewed goat so opted for a meagre salad and bread.
Peaceful place, lot's of sponge diving, interesting WW2 history.
Very nice but only stayed one night.

I know it but we are staying with Dave and Shirley, in Kos, lovely place now Kos town with some great bars and eateries, I really get why they moved there.

Lipsi is delightful. We did a trip similar to yours last year - Bodrum (Turgetreis) to Kalymnos, Patmos and Lipsi. Lipsi is tiny - just 600 people and 1 taxi, about 5km by 2km. Lovely little port with half a dozen restaurants. Plenty of walks on quiet lanes. We stayed at the Nefali hotel which was good value outside July/August when the island gets swamped by Italian visitors - the island has Italian heritage and is apparently a very trendy destination. We went mid-June. About 60-80 euros a night - great views, nice rooms and views. About a 5 min walk from the port. Would recommend for 2 or 3 nights.....didn't find a Weatherspoons!

I can recommend the book 'Greek Island Hopping' by Frewin Poffley - so interesting and comprehensive I have a copy in Turkey and a copy in the UK - try ebay

Thanks for that Gerald, we are staying about 200 meteres from the ferry drop off well within walking distance for my dodgy knees, your description is pretty much what I would expect so looking forward to 3 nights of peace and quiet and good food and wine.
Kalymnos is a great Island, we will stay in a hotel opposite Telendos as is Patmos, we stayed at Captains House there again a fabulous location overlooking the little port.

Its Nisyros that Im struggling with, all I can find is it has a volcanic crater, which is a big rocky hole, living in the High Peak we have a good few rocky holes, we call them quarries so what else is there ? surely not just bars restaurants and beaches !
