Manchester Airport Easyjet Check In.

We travelled with Easyjet to Sofia yesterday and experienced their new Chech-In procedure.

You place your own case on a separate scale and scan your Boarding Pass, it then prints out your hold baggage ticket with the weight of your case printed on it, .(after placing your baggage ticket around the handle of your case), you then take it to the normal Chech-In area, place it on the conveyor belt and press a blue button and off it goes.

Staff were on hand to assist customers, we asked the question " what happens if your case is overweight"? The machine would not issue a baggage ticket and you would either pay the extra or remove items.

Not sure if this is going to be a permanent (staff less check-in) procedure.

Love travelling from Sofia to almost anywhere in the World. Never that many people queuing, waiting etc., Handy as we only live a few hours down the road from Sofia. Happy Days.

Re: Manchester Airport Easyjet Check In.

Just wondered if , say you have multiple bags , would they then tot up your total weight allowance if , say two out of 4 bags were overweight and two were well under weight , because you would not have exceeded your total weight allowance for the amount of bags purchased
So how would it handle that

For example, when we moved over , I brought my guitar in it's rectangular case, along with a 3 fold fancy dressing table mirror , styrofoam packed and cling film taped to it.....this was well under weight which meant we could put more weight in each suitcase so long as we
A-didn't exceed the combined total weight of all the bags
B-didn't have any one case over 32 kilos

Good question Ted, I can see problems arising for the busier times.

Re: Manchester Airport Easyjet Check In.

Hi, We flew out of Manchester 2 weeks ago to Spain and went through this new system.
As the flight was full, we volunteered to put one of our hand luggage into the hold and the assistant was delighted. I've never known them refuse so we always pack one with medication and valuables that travels in the cabin and put the other in the hold at no cost. The machine comes up with a charge but the assistant puts a code in which cancels it. Let's hope they have enough assistants on hand at busy times. It was the usual procedure when flying back to Manchester so don't know if it's just on trial with the intention of becoming the norm, or if it's just for the UK.
