Izmir,Dom. or Int.

I will be arriving in Izmir from the UK via Istanbul,do I exit the Int. or Dom. terminal as on a domestic flight from Ist.
The last time we came via Bodrum we disembarked Dom and were transported to the Int terminal to go through customs,is it the same at Izmir.

You will land at the domestic terminal, but your baggage will be at the international. You will have to walk to the other terminal and it takes about 10 minutes. The baggage will either be going round and round on the carousel, or will be stacked up by lost property. Good luck

And if you arrive late at night it will all be locked. They now have someone going round with a clipboard to tell you about this. If you wait by the domestic carousel, someone will find you and take you through to International to pick up your cases.

It's not a huge hassle or any big deal, but worth knowing so you don't get worried!

Re: Izmir,Dom. or Int.

I frequently travel to Izmir from Germany via Istanbul, in fact I travel today. First you book your luggage through to your last destination i.e. Izmir.
When you disembark in Izmir you will be at the domestic terminal - follow the crowd and look out for the Airport employee who will be directing international travellers to collect their luggage from the international terminal.
You walk to the terminal (about 10 minutes) and then wait for your luggage or you can buy something from the duty free shop while you wait.
Incidentally I have arrived in Izmir at all hours sometimes day and sometimes night/morning - it was always the same procedure.
Easy Peasy
