Moving personal items from TRNC to Fethiye area.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions most welcome. We have hit a bit of a wall regarding moving some of our stuff to Turkey. One removal firm said they won't ship it as they don't have enough customers, so it will have to go by air, which could prove expensive. Another company say's they will only do a full container, which we don't have so just wondering where to go from here. I know when we moved here we did bring our personal items over ourselves, but we didn't have too much, now we have more and a cat and dog in tow, obviously the pets will travel with us on the plane. Thanks in advance. xx

I look forward to any response on this query as well. I will be moving to Dalyan, where i already have a home, once I sell up in the UK. I have quite a few personal belongings I want to take with me but too many to take myself.

Re: Moving personal items from TRNC to Fethiye area.

When we moved we drove our van over from Turkey, loaded it up and drove back using the ferry to tasucu, will you be buying a car in Turkey?
the year after we left our friend moved using a local company that moved her to Istanbul with their truck, she went with the van driver. sadly she passe on earlier this year so I cannot ask her. I will contact a friend in TRNC to see if I can find out. What sort or volume are you talking about>?

Thanks Ibrahim. I'm not sure about the volume, but would say we would get it all in a transit van. Yes, we will be buying a car, eventually, when we return. Appreciate your help Ibrahim, thanks very much. xx

Hi there, I recall that there was a list of movers on the Doc Martin site. We found this and the very wide range of other items on that site and the personal support (when necessary) from Martin and his small band of volunteers and invaluable and extremely supportive resource.

Just one note of caution, in our experience the companies that say they have loads of experience of moving people 'point-2-point' actually have to use a local independent and licensed 'customs agent' and a local logistics company for both getting things through customs here in Turkey and progressing to delivery in your new home. We found Alpha, based in Izmir (who do both) to be excellent - bit of a 'ronseal moment' - they did everything they said they would, on time, well handled & no problems. The agent in the UK however we found to be disorganised, dishonest and downright expensive - I will never, ever use or recommend Hamilton's again.

Might be worth you while contacting Alpha in Izmir (especially as I assume you will be bringing stuff from Northern Kibris) to see if they can assist you. PM me if you need a contact No and I can dig it out from my files

Thanks Leo, that is really informative, we will check that out. I didn't think of checking out Martin's site either, he did send me a load of files, so will go through those also. Can you send me Alpha's details please. Thanks alot. xx

You probably don't remember but we moved our stuff using MNG cargo. They were excellent and very cheap. Probably about the same amount of stuff that you're talking.....only 'stuff', not furniture but did include my doll's house!!

Which way did you move it Laura? From what I remember they will take stuff over to TRNC no problem but are not so keen to take it the other way. Too much hassle with customs I was told in 2014

Re: Moving personal items from TRNC to Fethiye area.

We used MNG to move our personal stuff over to TRNC thanks to Laura's recommendations. We had 12 assorted cases and boxes, all very heavy and cost us 1200 yt. in November. They will collect for you and should have delivered to our new place in Tatlisu, but after non arrival we went to customs at Ercan and found our goods, 240 lira in costs and managed to get all the stuff in our large hire car. All the goods went by air freight, which certainly seemed the easiest and cheapest way. Surat Cargo seem to be advertised everywhere so assume they are the main agents in TRNC,

Sharon

Re: Moving personal items from TRNC to Fethiye area.

Is it worth asking on social media if anyone is moving the other way; TC to TRNC and seeing if you could do a deal for a two way cargo transfer?
