Re: Bike Bytes

I forgot to include my mates brothers ES 2. I ended up riding it myself whilst my Norton was getting repaired. My mates brother said it was necessary for me to ride his bike after the accident otherwise I might never ride again. I had to agree because I liked riding it. It was so well balanced that when you came to a corner you just leaned with the bike and then opened the throttle.

Re: Bike Bytes

It's almost the same as an older Ural, it's called a Dnepr, made in Kiev.
This one is in remarkable mechanical condition and is "usually" very reliable, although I dread to think how much I have spent on it so far. One of my other old bikes is a 1979 Kawasaki Z1300. It has a 6 cylinder engine and I recon I have spent less of my hard earned on that.

Re: Bike Bytes

I had a firms bike, a red Goldwing GL 1000 just like the one in the video. I bought a second hand blue one to restore. It had been left out in the rain for 2 years. I restored it over the winter (converted one bedroom into a spray booth for bits). Got the panels professionally sprayed by dream Machine in Nottingham, and a custom leather seat with matching piping. Fitted GL 1100 exhausts (warranty rejects from Honda), but we had to cut the balance pipe as the wheelbase was different. Stunning machine. Took it to the South of France while I worked there for 2 x 3 month seasons.. What a bike to ride in the sun at st Tropez. Never got BB on the back though.

Re: Bike Bytes

Funny with Bikes really .Done the trip past Stonehenge many times in my car to Torquay ( 240 mile drive there )
But the most memorable was riding my big engine Harley past there on way home one freezing Jan afternoon. As I thundered past Stonehenge the sun was just going down behind it and there was nothing on the road but me .The sight as I went past Stonehenge and the sound of that bike is something I won't forget .Crazy really .

No real surprises here, when you add in that it tends to be a certain type of character that is drawn to the excitement of 2 wheels in the first place, risk takers. What saddens me is the high percentage of middle aged men who try to recreate their youth and die on their new bikes unaware that they do not have the same reactions or vision that they used to have. One locally only yesterday, a man in his 50s. R.I.P
