Receiving Payments for Rental
Hi,
I've just received my first enquiry for renting my villa and I wondered how do I receive payment? The enquiry I have is from Switzerland, so how do they get the money to me? What do other people do? Payment through International bank transfer? What about holding damage deposits etc?
It didn't occur to me that I would be dealing with enquiries from overseas!!
Thanks,
Nessie

Re: Receiving Payments for Rental
Be very careful, there are a lot of rental scams around, where they offer to pay you extra money so you can pay someone else, but you end up out of pocket.
More details can be found on various sites and there were couple of threads here about it too.

totally off the subject but what you just said rung a bell.
I had an offer for a car i was selling last year but the buyer was over seas. He sent me a cheque for the asking price plus £2000 more for shipping ! When i deposited the cheque nothing was said by the bank.
He said someone was going to come and collect the car for him when the funds cleared but i was already very suspicious so contacted the bank and told them of my suspisions. They checked out the buyers account for me and said there was nothing in it.
The scam works like this. a few days later the buyer contacts you again and says his mother is very ill and he needs his money back to pay the fees. It looks to you like the money has cleared when you check your account (a fault of all banking systems) He tells you he doesnt need all the money back, just the shipping fee as he still wants the car. You wire the money, he does a runner, the bank contacts you to tell you the cheque has bounced.
I imagine this can be done on a smaller scale with a more effective hit rate. ie. Rentals.
If you recieve a cheque then the guy wants you to wire money back, its simple...... Dont ! With a bit of common sense most scams are quite transparent.

Re: Receiving Payments for Rental
I hope it's not a scam. The guy is sounding genuine so far, he has e-mailed me a few times asking information on the area, and left messages on my voicemail.

Re: Receiving Payments for Rental
What you need is a property Maintenance Service Nessie to look after all your needs.
They can also contact all the people who are interested in renting your Villa, hold a key and do the cleaning, you will have to open a Turkish Bank account with the as POA
Try this link http://www.turkishliving.com/forums...-your-property/
Good Luck

if you want to be safe then open a new bank account and have them pay ito that - even from abroad it so simple
alternatively have them pay into a bank account in Turkey
keep detailed accounts as you are liable to tax on the profits you make. Details can be found on the Inland revenue website
oh, watch out for the charges for receiving money - that will affect your repayment of the security deposit too

Re: Receiving Payments for Rental
Hi nessie
Just had a quick search I put the word scam in search at top of page makes interesting reading, even if it just raises your guard,
Having said that there must be far more decent, honest, and genuine folk about, than dodgy so-an-soes,
good look with your renting.

Good God Martin, I must agree with what you have said about trusting people.
To me, if you listen to everything you are told you won`t do a single thing. I think you must go with your "Gut" instict to do anything. If it proves to be wrong , Hey well, try to be a bit better next time.
