Side - good news - bad news -

Both Garden Beach Bar and Shanty Beach Bar have been demolished, near the Sensimar Andiz Hotel, by order of the council.

The promenade work is on-going and should be completed by the time Mike and I return to Side on 13th March next year ... will give more updates then ... Happy New Year! x Angela in Cardiff and Side x

Best wishes for next year. Lets hope the rebuild of the old town and the extension of the promenade will be nice. Its a shame that 2 good bars like that will be demolished but I am sure som new good once will pop up...

Looking forward to come down to the great resort of Side again.

I am going to miss those bars, for the food, drinks, music, sun beds & toilets. They were also near to free parking

We go to Alremu Bar/Restaurant which is close to the 2 bars that were knocked down - a great place x Angela in Side x

Just returned from side and have to say i was shocked by the amount of shops and restaurants that have been knocked down. As you enter side there is boarding up on both sides of the street with rubble behind and as you get to the square the shops/restaurants on the left and right have gone inc. fiesta. Turn left and head past the apollo temple and all the restaurants are gone inc stones,temple restaurant and paradise. They are putting seating areas in along this stretch and the new boulevard which is nice. I hope it all works for the best but i do fear side will lose its character. On the plus side they are restoring more ruins at the entrance to side. I will try to post videos.

They did a lot of work in the old town last year also and it came out better than before. I am sure when they finish it this year it will be great..

I saw a photo on facebook the other day, but cannot find it again. It looked like the Shanty Beach has built some sort of bar on the actual beach. Can anyone confirm this?
We found the free parking nearby & the free sunloungers when you brought a drink very convenient in the past.
I am also going to miss their free toilets.

Yes they built a beach bar on the beach. When they finish the restoration of the old town its going to be fantastic and next winter they will built the kumkoy part of the promenade which will make it the longest in the mediteranian (13 km).

Thank you for the update. We will head there on our first day for a bit of sun before we do the start of the season supermarket shop
