Unhappy No electricity because of the local cat ...

We had a very unfortunate incident yesterday at my complex of Mirage Residence. The local black and white cat jumped into the electricity box and frazzled herself to death, at the same time knocking out all the electricity on the site. The cat was taken away - luckily I did not see it myself but my next door neighbours from Norway did and they said it was not a pretty sight - and we were without electricity or computers because of course they use a Modem - for 6 hours. We had to get the Electricity Board to come in as our electrician was not allowed to touch the official electric box. He came as well and between them, we finally had the electric back on. I did not realise just how much I rely on electricity, especially for use of my laptop, but am fully aware now and so glad to be able to switch the lights on and have a cuppa from my electric kettle! x Angela in Side x

Re: No electricity because of the local cat ...

It's amazing how much we rely on electricity and water. Sometimes I think all houses should be without for 1 day a year to make us appreciate it more. Shame about the cat, the box should never have been left open.

Re: No electricity because of the local cat ...

I have witnessed the most concocted of electric wiring in Turkey, including pool wiring. It amazes me that more people aren't electrocuted. What if it was a child rather than a cat who got into this electric cabinet. I have regularly witnessed electric cabinets open or closed but unlocked.

You are correct, it seems that every time we have overnight guests the water goes off for a day. Good job that we can pump from the lake for loos at least. The main reason that we invested in PV was due to the frequent power cuts in the summer.

I'd love to be without it for one day a year - its closer to one day a month in Alanya

Re: No electricity because of the local cat ...

... but the electric box was NOT open ... that crafty cat opened it with its little paws! Only to suffer the consequences ... so much for a cat having 9 lives... this poor soul did not...

Re: No electricity because of the local cat ...

When we first moved to Sarilar in 2011, it was a regular occurrence happening almost every day. Fortunately, it isn't so bad now and just occasionally it goes off and usually only for a couple of hours. At one time, we didn't have electricity for 4 days but this is Turkey so expect the unexpected! Shame about the cat who opened the door, had it been on Mastermind!
