Gone up in smoke

Yesterday afternoon our local Manav was destroyed by fire. Not long before 3pm a fire started from one of the motors in one of the large fridges along the wall and in no time at all, the place was ablaze.
The smoke was so dense as it blew across the road, visibility was zero for quite some time. Fire engines were swiftly on the scene but very unfortunately, Ramazan's business is lost.
Whatever could be salvaged has been and is now stored in the freezer room at the Fishmonger's in the same block, and in the cool-room at the Butcher's next door to us.

All very sad but that was not quite the end of it.
At 2.30am this morning, luckily the manager of The Hanay Suite Hotel was still outside by the pool with visitors when he saw smoke going up the outside of the back of our building.
The electricity box that serves 3 shops and the flats above in our block was ablaze.
Again, Fire Service quickly on site and fire extinguished before it spread further into any of the properties.
No-one has been hurt which is a blessing and hopefully, that will be an end to it. Our internets and landlines were all off until about 15minutes but right now, we appear to be back to normal.

Fingers crossed, these things are not going to come in '3's.

Re: Gone up in smoke

Bad news on the telly today, the fire seems to have spread to the hills.
We had a bush fire yesterday. It took several hours to get it under control, 4 helicopters and 2 water planes.
It must be the heat, damn this global warming. Almost 70 factory fires in major Turkish cities.
The media is suggesting it is a worrying sign of the economic state here.
