Lucky Kitten

I'm posting this just to say......."My faith in human kindess has, once again, been restored."

This little furry kitten arrived at our office one morning about 4 weeks ago for breakfast. No mother, no sisters, no brothers alongside to give it support but, there it sat along with our regular street-cats waiting to be fed. A right little bag of nails.
It was minute, wet through, maybe no more than 6 or 7 weeks old with a damaged eye but as brave as the day is long.

Over those last 4 weeks, we've lost several of the cats one way or another. Some, victims of cars along Side Blv, a couple maybe from the very cold wet nights and one dear old thing who's time was up and decided it was time to join his spirit in the sky but, this baby turned up each morning and late afternoon to be fed with all the others.

Anyway, one of our new tenants, a lovely lady, living here permanently consistently asked about this little kitten and took her/him home with her today to become a really mollycoddled house cat. How lovely is that??

When it heaved it down with rain this morning, this little kitten took refuge in our office. Slept for about an hour on the bookshelves and then came to sleep just behind my chair. Very relaxed, very at home with people that were coming and going so I feel that all will go well with this lovely lady that's provided a permanent home.

I'm saying "Thankyou bigtime", and I know that some of our local TLF'ers will recognise this kitten and be happy that it's one less struggling to survive.

Excellent news - nice to hear a good animal story from Turkey ! Actually, we have a one eyed cat. We saved her from starvation, had her nurtured, got her eye sorted by the vet. She's been with us for some years now and gets fed by friends on the complex when we are away.

Re: Lucky Kitten

Always lovely to hear a great ending to an initial sad story. We have three cats, one from a hotel in Side and another we rescued last August from Antalya. He is so laid back he almost falls over. Through the hour long car journey back to Manavgat, he just sat on my lap looking out of the window, he didn't struggle or try to escape. He has a wonderful personality and is very loving. When we come back from shopping and he is out he always comes to greet us and then goes on his merry way. We are cat people and would rescue them all but as we are getting older, they'd probably outlive us and who would look after them after we'd gone. We brought our Siamese from the UK and she is now 15 years old and we don't know how much longer she has as her kidneys are now failing but she is healthy for the moment thank goodness. Thank you to all the people who give homes to all the street cats and dogs.

Re: Lucky Kitten

There should be a lot less kittens appearing around the area by Side PTT and the small hotels in that area this spring.

My neighbour is from Dusseldorf and one of her friends visits twice a year but continually fund-raises back home in Germany to help with sterilisation of our street-cats here in Side.
Whatever cash she raises, she brings with her, then off they go together to catch whatever number of cats the total cash allows them to sterilise.

She came out 2 weeks ago and they've done 56 cats in all this time.
48 girls and 8 boys, all done, no disasters, all cats now back out around their familar hotel grounds and PTT. Their efforts are always well appreciated and the next visit is already planned for September.

I feel the staff at the PTT also deserve a mention because they buy dried cat food and feed anything between 10 and 15 cats by the PTT every day come rain or shine..

Re: Lucky Kitten

Looks a little like our Sky whom we rescued from the Skys bar a couple of months ago. She also only has one eye but had been spayed. She is so tiny, she must have been the runt of the litter and I really don't think she would have survived very long on the street so the only thing to do was take her home. She is a calico and a delightful little girl and a beautiful personality. We love her dearly. She gets on well with all our other cats but she's a little fighter when it comes to her food. She must be 6 months old now and is still like a kitten but she is fed, safe and loved here. Thank you to the lady that rescued this cat, I'm sure it'll have a charmed life!

Re: Lucky Kitten

I'm hoping that people will be thinking of feeding the stray dogs and cats at this critical time all over Turkey. I saw an article in the paper that the Belediye will send out food but I have no idea how true it is.. has anyone seen this yet.
