Re: Newbie in need off advice

Kanga's advice is excellent, we also retired in our 50s, best thing we ever did. I hope it works for you.Make a real effort to learn Turkish, you will enjoy your time here and get significantly lower prices.

Re: Newbie in need of advice

We spoke for years about retiring abroad but when we did our research, found that our budget would not get us anything decent without a lot of work and we were too old to take on projects. We looked on the website and found a villa we liked and decided on a first holiday to Turkey. We came to Side for 2 weeks, was taken around by a rep from Mecitoglu who showed us a load of expensive crap basically. The manager in the pension in which we were staying said he knew a developer and introduced him to us. When he presented his computer generated images of his properties, lo and behold, the villa we had chosen was amongst them. He took us to Sarilar to see some plots of land and the second one he showed us we bought there and then and had our villa built off plan. That was before the end of our first week as we totally fell in love with the country. We have now been here almost 8 years and love it and have not been back to the UK since. We sold our properties in the UK as one was rented out and it was too much aggro. Everyone that comes to stay with us loves it and we are so lucky to llive where we are. The moment we landed in Antalya, we were home!

Re: Newbie in need of advice

Thank you Garcia, I've holidayed there for 25 yrs and love the place and like you feels like home , the UK has nothing left to offer me its getting more and more expensive the crime rate is terrible, so decided to escape before am to old to enjoy life. Up to now nobody has told me they regret it , I wont have a massive budget but I am only looking for a relaxing life not an all singing dancing holiday lifestyle lol

Re: Newbie in need of advice

We left the UK over 8 years ago now, and certainly don't regret leaving the UK, and I was only 48 and Antony 53 ! We were initially on a tight budget living off the rental from our UK house, and we rented a place out of that cash too, but we certainly don't regret leaving one bit. We did follow the advise to keep a place in the UK just in case we wanted to go back, but after 8 years away we cant see why we would want to go back to the UK, and will be selling the house in a couple of year when I am closer to getting my works pension... I'm not holding my breath for my state pension. I would say follow your dream, sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't go as planned or expected, but I say life is a journey, but you chose the road to follow. Good luck. xx
