City water - how do you get it?

Hi all,

I hope you can help? I have had a lot of problems with my builder in Turgutreis (see my previous thread about being pressurised to complete without a legal electricity supply or iscan). I guess I just ask them to show me their contract with Tedas but in respect of the water supply I don't have a clue what I should be asking them to show me. What do the builders need to do on my development to connect us to city water? I guess I will have to buy a water tank and solar panels etc but what arrangements should I expect them to make with the municipality and what connections are needed to get city water to the development and to my duplex?

Many thanks,

Helen

Re: City water - how do you get it?

Hi Helen, you do seem to have your share of problems; the mains water pipes are normally laid at the start of the building (normally blue plastic) & each property (if its a sitesi) should have its own branch from this with your own property water meter (its not unknown for some builders to wrongly use one meter to supply 2/3 appartments- make sure this doesn't happen to you-same with electric-a certain builder in Turgutreis still has outstanding issues with some English buyers) You will certainly need solar panels, but more importantly, even when connected to the mains you will only get water on 1 out of 2/3 days for much of the year, due to water shortages. This means that (like us) you will need either a large storage tank & or acces to well water. We live in an older sitesi in Turgutreis (near La Blanche) & have had a 2000 litre tank buried in the ground to cover the limited mains water & this is then pump operated throughout the house & to the solar panels. Others have a tank at floor level or on roof. Many (like us) also acces to a well (but have to pay small fee to council) which supplements the mains supply, so in effect we don't have a problem. Sadly no one tells you about this until you have bought your property! Out of curiousity who is the builder/emlak causing your problems? I have a friend in Turgutreis is quite expert on all this if it helps...
Cheers,
Tony Gaskell

Hi Helen
To get council water you have to take your Tapu and iskan to the beledeye Council and ask for them to come and connect your water this costs approx 300-400ytl Then go to SEVSAN he is the local water guy (buy local and if anything goes wrong then you have a better chance of sorting it) he is based near the big bus station in Turgutreis. There you can buy everything you need example tank, 2 solar panels electric pump, 1500 litre tank all fittings and workmanship 2250ytl just got this week for a client. electrician needed to connect water heater in the tank that will go on the roof this costs was 60ytl all done in a day, don't pay all till it is fully working i pay 1250ytl then when tested I will pay the rest usually within a week from completion. if I can help further PM me.

Hi thanks for the info. The builder is Ekrem Agdeve, married to an English woman (Rowena). I still haven't been able to contact him but apparently he gave PoA to his partner, Eyup, and this is who I am dealing with now although Ekrem's name is on the deeds plus also Eyup's girlfriend!

What I can't work out is I have 1st floor and 2nd floors and there is a private roof terrace from the 2nd floor and underneath me is a garden flat so I can see where I put my water tank but where do they put theirs? There is no electricity yet either ....... Regards, Helen

Many thanks, no sign of an iskan at the moment and no permanent electricity supply. I can't think why my lawyer is telling me to make the final payment and complete - OK tapu is prime importance but so are water and electricity. She is talking about a letter of undertaking from the builder to supply later with penalty clauses if they fail to deliver but so far they won't sign anything with penalty clauses! Helen

Re: City water - how do you get it?

We own a villa in Kadikalesi, Turgutreis and the water tanks on our roof need replacing badly but we know nothing about them and even though we did try to get them replaced ourselves we felt either ripped off with the quote given or couldnt get enough understanding to get a price, My Turkish is very limited and basic but I am trying to learn :-)
Do you mean the water man that is across the road on the opposite side of the turning to the bus station that also sells Gas and all the pots and pans and everything else???
And also if we still cannot sort things out for ourselves would you or your friend be able to help us?
We was going to use somebody that another person we knew used but after they had the work done they got burgled and to but it bluntly they have a suspision it was something to do with the work and the person so it put us off, I know it could of happened without being anything to do with them but it did make us very wary and very cautious.
Thanks for listerning
Clair

Try Sabatin on 05376513645 - he speaks quite good English and is very efficient and doesn't overcharge - he fitted my water tank and immersion heater and has also helped me with air conditioning and patio doors insulation - he is polite, courteous and turns up on time! Just say Helen from Karabag and he will be happy to give you a quote for whatever needs doing.
