Is a full system replacement worth it?

We've had our house and solar water system for 16 years.it's started to leak and we have been quoted 2000 lira to replace the hot water tank.

In view of the age of the system, we still use the two tank system, would a full replacement be worthwhil from an efficency perspective ? How much more efficient are the modern systems? I'm not overly concerned about the cost if it gives me a much better system.

Re: Is a full system replacement worth it?

We had our system replaced 2 years ago, cost 1700 lira for a single tank, 2 panels filled with antifreeze added and a heating element in the tank

Our hot water pressure is really good now as the system is pressurized (there is a pressure valve which releases too high pressure as either steam or boiling water)

We still have to use the element (which is on a timer) during cold/grey days but all summer our water is free to heat

We had an evacuated tube system which I believe is more efficient than a panel system in terms of speed of heating up X litres of water, and also more efficient in the winter, i had a load of print outs showing graphs to this effect. What we did find was the immersion heater back up (if you have one fitted) went faulty on all the sytems we have had in the past.

2000TL for the tank only seems a bit steep. Ther are some prices on here to give you a guidline:-

What Yali ses is sound, may I add that also the HW pressure is greater than a secondry tank fed system.

The pressure should be full mains pressure, not just the gravity feed from the roof.

Our pressure is like mains pressure and when our system was being fitted, I asked the guy if the element (which was only 7 months old )was still OK expecting an "Oh no, you will need new"
He surprisingly told me we had a good Italian one , not one of "The crap Turkish/Chinese ones"

If you mean the immersion heater element Ted, they all told us that the Italian elements were crap, I think they often if not always tell us what they think we want to hear.

The problem with the heating elements is that they all suffer due to the limescale (kireÁ).

Don't know if they actually work or do anything/help but I installed Pipe magnets on the water tank incoming cold water pipe, guess I'll have to wait until the element needs changing to find out if they did any help.
