My Tax Situation
Hi all,
Yesterday I attempted to honestly answer a question about CGT in Northern Cyprus-which I do know something about. Unfortunately, this seems to have turned into an excercise to determine whether I have, or have not, paid my taxes in the UK.
For everyones information-just to satify your curiosity-I am not a UK citizen and was not living in the UK.
I really don't see why I should have to share this with anyone else on this forum, however, if I say nothing it implies that I am 'guilty' by default.
This is not a nice place to be anymore.

Re: My Tax Situation
Ann, you are too sensitive, I think.
The discussion was about liability for CGT in northern Cyprus, and you made the point that others, not yourself, would not be liable for CGT. You did not state your position, which was why I subsequently asked about your status, as what you were describing did not fit the position of most European second home owners. No hurt was meant.

dont take it to heart - its an open forum and if you post you have to be able to take a reply, even if its not quite what you expected
This is generally a great forum so stick with it

Re: My Tax Situation
Ann,
If my post has caused you any offence then I apologise. No slight was intended, nor implied, it was a direct and relevant question. Taxes can be a hugely complex subject, and the idea of the forum is to share information and promote understanding.
I made the point that you need to have "Non domiciled tax status", which you say you have. Its important to make this distinction for those that don't , as they can assume in error that there is no tax to pay to the UK. This can make a huge difference to the value of a house sale and people's future financial wellbeing.
I hope this goes some way to restoring your interest and enjoyment of the forum.

Re: My Tax Situation
Hi Ann
Hope you will remain in this forum as ,like others, your contributions are a good asset to it.
I was hyper sensitive when I first joined but its only a forum to chat and learn from, not a life changing experience.
You contribute and draw knowledge from it and take the rough with the smooth. If you overstep the mark you apologise(for me a regular event LOL)
All the best
