Re: Council/Building Tax
yes ,1st year free new build and its due usually twice a year ,march & november .but it is a small fine so if you paid once a year [i pay in may when i go ] its not a problem but thats up yo the individual as they make no fuss if you pay it late they just put on a small fine .i mean the fine is small if you are more or less up to date .

Re: Council/Building Tax
Hi, we had this problem when we first went to pay ours but luckly for us we have a very good friend that is turkish and her husband and herself could explain it to us.
You only get one bill but it is split as equal as it can between however many people are on the Tapu, and this is show on the ones in your name (ie a bill for 325 for 2 people could be..mr x pays 150 and mrs x pays 175 etc.)
The fines can add a lot more to you bill so it is best to keep on top if you can, it has been suggested by others that you go to the council every time you are in Turkey but we was recommended to go in the May and the September
Hope this helps :-)

Re: Council/Building Tax
you get a bill for all names on the TAPU, if there is only 1 name then only one pays

Re: Council/Building Tax
Did this ever get sorted? If the council tax is a percentage of the Tapu declared value, is the amount payable per property regardless of the number of names on the Tapu? If two names are on the Tapu do both parties have to pay the percentage each? Or ten people on the Tapu all have to pay the same amount? I am still confused. Maisie

I thought the first year was free on a new build but when I went to pay my tax after the first year I was told by the official that it was not true and I was charged from when the tapu was issued.

Re: Council/Building Tax
Hi Folks
As I said before although the first year is free, you still have a reigistration fee & you have to make sure you go to the council office within the first month of you receiving your tapu to register your property and then from then on you will be told when to pay and how much.
Hope this helps

Re: Council/Building Tax
Hi Edwina, you've done a grand job sorting this out. I'll be straight down to the council as soon as my Tapu comes through.
Just one final thought, ours is a new build on an unfinished site so it could be a long time before we get a habitation certificate. Is the habitation certificate at all relevant to when you start paying council tax?
