Hi

We are having problems with paying our tax, we were told when we bought that we didn't have to pay for 4 years, but have since found out this is rubbish.
So we took the plunge and went to the council, shock horror they have given us 2 bills one for each of us as our both names are on the Tapu.

Can some one please please have a look at these and tell us if you think it is right, we think they have made a mistake, as our neighbours only paid a fraction of this.

Bearing in mind my 2 pages of exactly the same, which then totals 622,00 ytl, does any one think this is right, plus they seem to be charging us for late payment etc for may to nov of this year and it isn't even here yet.

we would apprciate any help any one can give us on this, we don't mind paying but we just don't want ripped off, we are also thinking about going to out lawyers.

this tax has to be paid when you get your tapu,its paid twice a year ,if your property is valued at say 150000ytl ,then its 150 ytl a year split in 2 payments of 75 ytl .there is a fine added for late payments ,you will each get a duplicate bill if both names on tapu ,but you only pay 1 bill. i think they send 2 bills because each one on tapu is liable to pay the bill ,so just split it down the middle . you can take your passport and address to the local belediye and pay cash over the counter.

It may not be far out, we were a bit naughty and did not pay for 2 years on our villa. Went to the town hall and they hit us with a 300ytl bill, biggest part was the fines. Will not make that mistake this year and off to pay it next month and will pay both amounts due for 2008.

The amount of course will depend on the value of your property.

i just had a thought ,when you said you were told you did not have to pay for 4 years ,they probably meant your cgt [capital gains tax ] on re sale profit . its 5 years now . like when we bought 4 years ago ,we were told same but they made it clear is was the cgt tax they were talking about .not the vergisi [house tax ]

Thanks for your reply a hope your right as they have given us 2 bills but they say we must pay both, each bill is 311 ytl and they say we must pay 622 ytl hope some one can confirm please.

how can you both get a bill and both of you have to pay ?? isn't that paying for it twice ?
sorry am i reading this wrong ? do you get a bill each and have to pay ,but it is only half the amount each ? i get so confused .
i wish someone could just give me a simple list of each and everything that you have to pay for when buying your home in turkey.
