Can any one advise me if it is possible to connect to the internet in Turkey via a satalitte system.

Yes it is via a connect card. You would need to buy 'time' from Turkcell while you are here, but if you ask for the internet package the costs are not too bad, also there are a lot of free wifi hotspots here too.
