Lightbulb Where should the money go?

Any ideas about what would be a worthwhile cause to support in Turkey? After all a lot of us get a great deal from being connected with Turkey, it would be nice to do a little in return that benefits our hosts.

Anything for underprivileged children in Turkey is fine by me Mushtaq and congratulations on a great idea.

Re: Where should the money go?

Personally I would like to see individual cases feel the benefit like the young boy on the trike pedalling his disabled father/brother around. If you give to schools etc you take away some of the responsibility the government has. Just my opinion, best to listen more to the local ex pats who are more in touch with things.

Re: Where should the money go?

What about working with existing local support networks and charities?

Wouldn't that cut down on paperwork and time?

I would like to see individual cases of real hardship that are brought to your attention benefit or crisis cases requiring immediate action.

Is there an organisation that provides refuge for battered women?

We need to be careful, otherwise we will become a charity and that involves a lot of admin!

By donating funds to existing 'charities' (as I stated above), I think we'll avoid getting mired in red tape. You can still target specific people, or causes by talking to these charities I'm sure.

Re: Where should the money go?

That's a good idea Phil, I hate paperwork.

Already have tons of it which I never seem to get through.

I think this to be a good idea in using existing charities. They know where the money is needed most and also could fund ongoing projects they are involved in. As Mushtaq also says it saves on the paperwork!

Whilst I have no problem in giving to individual cases it sometimes could back fire. The person say recieving a new wheelchair becomes a target for the "Sick Minded" and they steal or damage this new and much needed gift.

Andy

Freda will become famous soon enough
Re: Where should the money go?

Definitely a good idea. The local ladies in Fethiye FIG who do charity work are in the local paper every week telling people what they have achieved. It can come across as glory seeking to some
