Cycling Trails

I've been looking for some cycling trail maps for the Turgutreis area, peferably off road in the hills. Can't find any in the usual cycling places. Does anyone know if trail maps exist?

Thanks

Jonathan

Re: Cycling Trails

Perhaps this request could be broadened to the whole of the Bodrum area and for walkers as well as cyclists. I have looked for years decent trail maps without success help would be appreceated.

Re: Cycling Trails

We've also been looking for decent maps for a while as we enjoy walking. However, we haven't had much success so far. While searching through Amazon I found a Sunflower guide book "Turkish Coast Bodrum to Marmaris" which I ordered (someone else mentioned it recently on here). It contains 20 suggested walks in the Bodrum and Marmaris areas - but the maps are basically just line drawings - however, better than nothing. We intend to try some of the walks this year - maybe we should think about writing a walker's guide to the Bodrum Peninsula. Any other tips gratefully received.

Re: Cycling Trails

Hi guys,

This might sound ridiculous, but there does seem to be some resistance to the idea of making maps readily available. Its a problem all over Turkey, maps are hard to find and those that you do tend to be large scale.

There is an "element" of concern that these might have a innapropriate military use. Honestly ! I'm not kidding ! We too have spent hours looking and making enquiries... and this was the answer we got !!! Sounds a bit dads army I know ,but that's what we where told.....

Re: Cycling Trails

Trail do exist as we went horse riding up in the hills behind Gunduan at the top you get spectacular views of the whole peninsular, and villages which are untouched by progress.
They are not on any map that I have got.
If its the Dads Army Turkish military that suppress maps have they not seen Google Earth.

HARİTA GENEL KOMUTANLIĞI..have a look here...the english site doesnt come up...but if you look on the left and chose harıtalar ve projeler..and then chose Tematık harıtalar..you will get a list of the only types of maps so far available.
the first one...mülki harıta..is civilian..showing districts etc..
the next is fizik..shows the terrain..(and of course you can enlarge the pics..as you know...)
further down in the B section the kabartma map shows the country in relief.
so if you enjoy maps this is a nice site.
As yet there arent many around that show great detail....this is a big country..with some sensitive issues!..i wonder how long it took the uk to get its maps together..
things are getting better though as the Lycian Trail can show.

Re: Cycling Trails

Thanks for that Shirley - my husband loves maps so he will certainly enjoy this. I've just had a look - copy the name into google and it takes you straight there. Only disappointment - it doesn't show the "big" city of Yalikavak!!!
