Insurance (green card) most certainly does matter ...With out it you will not be allowed in.

yes you are right Sleepy. In my experience as a UK tourist then it is the reg doc and green card which are all important. I hit a problem 3 years ago as the green card was in my name ( my wife was a named additional driver on the policy ) but the car reg docs are in my wife's name. The customs were adamant that I was not allowed to enter - eventually they allowed us to enter but now I insist that our UK insurance company list both my name and my wife's name on the green card.

Re: Taking car into Turkey

The whole thing sounds a nightmare. we have found it simplest to keep a car at each end and use a one way 24hr rental from home to the UK airport.
We stayed out in Turkey one year for nearly 9 months and sold our UK car as there was no point leaving it sitting around and we didn't want to lend it to anyone. When we got back we did a short term lease for 3 months til we came back to Turkey and that worked well, if a bit expensive. The UK lease car was replaced with a new one every month and we never had more than 2k on the clock, but finding a short term lease, as opposed to carhire, was not easy.

Re: Taking car into Turkey

I think I misunderstood what you meant.

I have been told that the insurance can be in either person's name as long as both are listed on he policy. It would be better to have the policy in your name this time around and have your wife as the named driver. I thought you meant you might be denied entry if they see your wife's name on the green card.

I just get insurance when I'm in Turkey as I'm not covered by Endsleigh when in Turkey.

Abzlad not contradicting what your saying regarding name(s) on the Green card but in the past I have taken company cars in where I had POA and the Green Card insurance was in the company name.

Sleepy- not sure what you are saying here- and also not sure whether Abzlad's misunderstanding was re your post or mine lol.
What is your understanding re green card - ie car with reg documents in wife's name but green card in my name with wife's name included as additional driver? From your post it would seem that we would be ok - yes?

Re: Taking car into Turkey

Yes... to be ulltra safe ...if I was you I would have both you and your wife'same on the green card.
My point was that in the past that I have passed with a green t card in a company name so as a consequence an individuals name is not necessarily required.
However this is Turkey so play ultra safe.

Re: Taking car into Turkey

Drove to Turkey & back a few times, would I take a UK car there on a permanent basis? No.
How does the insurance work if you keep the car there permanent, is it a high premium because its classed as an import............?
