Re: Gatwick or Heathrow

As Heathrow Airport (amongst others) is now in private ownership, I assume it is the Private Sector who will foot this ginormous bill, no? Strange that they've chosen the most Expensive & disruptive option..... so much for Green living.........

Lord knows what extra costs this is going to add to the cost of travelling anywhere by Air... whether its' for a holiday or business, one thing's for sure business travellers will still be claiming the cost back on business expenses & the holidaymakers will just have to suck-it-up

Major roads all across England (maybe UK too) are being altered (h'mm 'improved....) as some of them are in the wrong place for Construction companies to be able to take full advantage of land they own to be built on...... Courtesy of Joe Public - Taxpayers.................

There's always a good reason for these decisions.......... Money

Re: Gatwick or Heathrow

The already extra costs of flying from Heathrow are already bad enough, I cant see it getting cheaper so I can't see how they can justify their claim that it will be an economic benefit to the passenger, as I said earlier Amsterdam is as easy if not easier to get to for those who require a shuttle and flights from there are generally much cheaper.

Re: Gatwick or Heathrow

I admit to not having studied this very much over the years, but catching up quickly now; it seems there is a huge amount of freight/cargo going through Heathrow that could be sent from any regional airport - Manston Airport has been suggested as an ideal freight hub (it is on the far east tip of Kent) that has minimal impact on communities and already has the road & rail links necessary.

To enlarge Heathrow they have to destroy villages and actually move a Motorway - and the flight path still takes everything over central London. Makes as much sense as HS2.

Re: Gatwick or Heathrow

Heathrow is a nightmare because it is so huge, so what will it be like with the new runway. I have not used it for years, it was all too much. But we do need more connectivity, particularly to China, I would say.

How about redeveloping Manchester as an airport, knock it down, build a runway, put up a few sheds for customs, wouldn`t cost much and would be a great improvement....
