Keep your passport with you

for tourists, you may come across jerks at Zeytinburnu station that pull you over if you don't have your passport on you.

happened to me after visiting the old city. Guy in a red station uniform asked for my passport. when I told him I don't have it, he made me stand beside a few other guys he already pulled over. all Asian guys lol

after 10 minutes of standing and doing nothing, the guy just said we can all go.

Re: Keep your passport with you

Since the State of Emergency was imposed you should always carry your passport, RP or printed copy of your e-visa. If you don't you can be fined.

Re: Keep your passport with you

I was under the impression in Turkey that you must carry ID on you at all times which includes tourists & may well mean your passport. I know I got stopped by the jandarm, I was OK but I had to go & get my sons passport whilst he stayed with them talking football.

Re: Keep your passport with you

We were stopped by a heavily tooled up Jandarma in Mumcular , passports proffered , no probs , nice youn officer bade us a " thankyou very much , have a good stay " in perfect english. Jackie was quite captivated with his charming demeanour and rakish smile.

I was looking at the hardware .

Yes,you are right, it has always been the law, although it wasn't always enforced. However, since the coup and the state of emergency which is still on going I personally obey the rules as you can't count on meeting a nice police man.

I will admit ,a friend had her passport stolen ,while she was out.And the aggro she had sorting it ,was the main reason I carry mine with me .Would you believe her son flew over to help after the break in ,and while they were out ,they broke in again & stole his passport .Unbelievable.
