Sold my house, gave notice to my employer, flew back to Turkey in April 1990 and spent the best part of a year here, 6 months in Datca and the rest travelling in eastern Anatolia. The rest is history!! I decided on my first visit to Datca that I'd retire here, and I did 10 years ago. I was never tempted to buy, sooner spend my money travelling, and am now in my 3rd rental property, a lovely villa with stupendous views. I haven't been back to the UK for 8 years, and have no desire to do so.

Here, is home!
It was lovely spending time with you L. Such a zest for life.. You just don't know what is around the corner... you are such a star , in going for what you want. Sending hugs, Susan. xx

Great idea for some. Speaking for myself, I couldn't be away from my kids and grandkids, watching them growing up and having their company is one of the great pleasures of life for me.

Re: Turkish living

Have any of you renting your properties or letting family use it had any run ins with the rental police? Or is it too complicated to rent or let family/friends in now. It does seem a bit of a pain now. Alanya renters got caught out the other day and it would be interesting to know if they were expats or turkish nationals.

We’ve been renting out (mostly long term) 4+ years. Our first emlak was a dodgy sod and more interested in stealing from us than in protecting our backs.

Our new emlak has been great & no problems. Whether he is fulfilling all requirements or is just friendly with the rental police I dare not ask

But the answer is certainly in having a reliable emlak – I certainly wouldn’t go through all the rigmarole of renting direct even if I was still resident in Turkey.

I thought the problem was only with short term rentals Jaycey or has that changed now?

Re: Turkish living

This seems to apply only to daily renters, whatever that means.

Turkish authorities fine owners of daily rental apartments

No changes that I know of Laura.

We started with both short & long term rentals - now only long term which has worked out much better & hassle free.

Re: Turkish living

There is no change in the regulations for long- term renters. I understand that any rental of over a month is classed as long term - a friend from Egypt is just coming to the end of a 3 month rental here, from a friend of mine who lives in Zurich. No problems.
