Turkish living

Or holidaying.
Is anyone doing real Turkish Living or holidaying in Turkey?
Would be real nice to read some good or bad stuff regarding Turkey.
Would also be great to see Brexit, Trump and anything else not about Turkey....have a summer recession. Let's have some great summer stories. New places to go and see and enjoy in Turkey. Who's in Turkey now..... Anyone? Or are we all back home for the summer.

Re: Turkish living

Don't give up so easily, people need more than 3 hours to respond. We are in Turkey full time and love it. We moved away from centres of tourism years ago. We could no longer face the posers of Istanbul who pollute Bodrum every August.

Re: Turkish living

Yep, I'm living in Datca, full time for the last 10 years, but on and off for the last 30 years. I did intensive research during the 3 years before I retired so I was well prepared for life here. It took the UK tax office quite a while to sort out my tax - I don't pay any!! And the methods I chose to manage my finances have proved to be sound - my pensions are paid into my UK bank, I draw in Sterling from a local ATM then change it at the best rate. The Residence Permit system is working well, in Mugla district at any rate. I have SGK, which while expensive has proved, in my case, that it's worth it's weight in gold.

Am I happy? Yep, certainly am! Although I don't enjoy Datca so much during the intense heat and humidity of mid June to mid September, I stay home and keep cool in the garden! My life is exactly as I anticipated - no regrets, and I'm here until I pop my clogs!!

Re: Turkish living

The joys of living in Turkey.... Last Thursday we were out visiting a friend's village and spent a long day being sociable, meeting new people and driving, enjoyable but tiring. When we woke up on Friday morning we said 'let's have a quiet, lazy day today'. Yeah right.
When we tried to open the kitchen door (UPVC) the lock had broken, locked. the dogs on the terrace could see us trying to get out and went wild. Time for a cup of tea while we thought about it, and went out through the patio door to calm the dogs.
Being in Turkey we could take the door off its hinges by removing the vertical pin that goes right through the hinge.
5 minutes later we had the door off, but very heavy. the missus and I managed to get it into the van. She had to stay home as we had no door on, whilst I drove the 50km to town. On the sanayi a very nice man changed the lock unit whilst I drank tea. 60TL later I drove back home and we reversed the procedure (had to borrow a neighbour to help get the door back on).

Re: Turkish living

There seems to be a ground swell of people making an effort to turn this forum around and get people to discuss TURKEY a little more than some of the unrelated topics. Given the chance I would spend a lot more time on here chewing your ear off about how I enjoy and have been enjoying Turkey for many a year now. The neigh sayers on here though seem to relish the idea of putting you down for it. We have already had one on here doing just that, ignor him.

Yes I live here full time and find that lifre is more relaxing dispite the politics, I probably only holiday here the same as visitors and mainly out of season. Life goes on as normal but the thought that the beach and that gorgeous sea is only a short drive away gives a pleasant feeling.

I'll make way for the killjoys to have their say now.
