Re: Is Turkey open

I have never been able to figure out why anyone would want to book with them in the first place? With the worst of reputations, hidden fees, rude staff and the odious CEO, I have never entertained the notion of flying anywhere with them and would rather walk.
I knew one of their former Captain's who jumped ship and went to Jet2. He told me he had to pay for his own uniform and took a flask of coffee with him for each flight as otherwise he would have been charged the same as a passenger.

Re: Is Turkey open

The reason people have booked with them is cheapness - especially people happy to travel with virtually no luggage and pay the 9.99 flight price or whatever.
Just like with Easyjet, no matter how many thousands of people say Never Again, when the 29.99 flights come out and the competition charge 150 the price point always converts the Never Agains to bargain hungry customers.
OK the days of flights for 10 and 20 quid may be a thing of the past but when flight prices come out it will be amazing how many people will forget the refund horror stories if they are saving a few hundred quid for a family holiday.

Re: Is Turkey open

We got shafted with jet 2 once and said never again. We never looked at their prices, we did not care. Alas, when thomas Cook went under and we neede direct flights Antalya-Manchester we had to give in. To be fair, the flights were reasonable and no more shafting, they seem to have done well refunding people, so we will (eventually) ,continue with them. We have no plans to return to UK in the near future barring family emergency.

Unfortunately, if you pay cheap prices for shoddy service, you have no room to complain and that has kept Ryanair going for years.
I won't ever be keeping them going, but there's always the one's who will.
I liken them to the All Inclusive bargain hunters who want to pay budget prices, then complain about the hotel, the food and the watered down drinks.

Surely an all-inclusive would be just like another lockdown.

The fact that in 2019 they made over 1 billion euros profit and despite the pandemic still expect to make 900 million suggests they are certainly doing something right that millions of punters approve of.

Re: Is Turkey open

There are plenty of people to rip off and the best in the world who put up with all the crap and pay for it time and time again are the Brits.
Profits are huge because as now, they don't just make it from the 'sheep', but they don't return it when they are legally obligated to do so. The 'sheep' will get brow beaten by Mr O'Leary and take vouchers.
Then, with vouchers for next year, he will probably put up air fares for 2021 and tell them the vouchers were only valid for the original price of this year's fare, so they owe more. Captive to the demands of Ryanair, they then are compelled to pay out or lose out. Brilliant work for Mr O'Leary as he can always sell the seats to more sheep and so it goes on.

Ruthless tactics and total lack of care and respect for workforce also contributed to profits.
Ryanair has fired all its pilots and cabin crew members based in the Netherlands after they did not agree to be 'voluntarily' relocated to bases as far-flung as Morocco and Belarus.

Re: Is Turkey open

Unless I've got this wrong from the briefing this afternoon, with very few exceptions as of 8th June anyone arriving into the UK will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Penalty is up to 1000 fine and plod could visit the address given to ensure quarantine is being carried out.
This means that if Jonny Brit leaves the UK to go on holiday,
he might be hit for a quarantine in the country of his arrival, then another one on his return.
To answer the original question - Is Turkey open?
Well it might be at a later date this year but for travel insurance purposes and quarantine requirements, it doesn't look like it will be for UK holiday makers.

No quarantine if you fly from Paris or Dublin. Pathetic quarantine really. More that 18 million have come into the UK since Turkey started quarantining international arrivals.
